During the IMS Dance Club performance, students took part in a traditional dance number showcasing the music and culture of India.
Started in 2013, Ajna Dance Company is a New York City based woman and minority owned performing arts organization with the mission of South Asian dance and culture in a way that is relatable, joyful and fun. Students participated in a showcase of popular Indian dances. Each grade level attended this school wide activity.
Students participated in a discussion of Indian History and the cultural significance of henna. We then discussed and viewed examples of henna designs and learned to differentiate between Indian, Arabic, and North African henna. Students then created their own henna design and shared with the class.
Students in Digital Media created videos after a cultural exploration and research. They identified important topics and created videos highlighting holidays, culture, and language.
Students researched famous Indian scientists and completed a brief summary of their contributions to humanity and the scientific arts. They used the website below for their findings.
Student Scientific Discovery
Students participated in a discussion on Indian history and the cultural significance of Mandala. Students viewed examples of Mandalas and learned to create radial symmetry. Students colored their own Mandala.
