5/1: Today is the start of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. The month celebrates the historical and cultural contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islander people.
5/5: Did you know: May is Asian Pacific Islander Month. The month of May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869 since the majority of the workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants.
5/12: As we celebrate AAPI month, did you know that the first Asian Pacific immigrants to the US were Filipino sailors? Filipino sailors arrived in California as early as 1587. In 1763, Filipino sailors settled in a Louisiana bayou, and became the first Filipino immigrants to settle in the United States, known as “Manilamen.” Along with enslaved people and other people of color, the Filipino immigrants built a small fishing village called Saint Malo. The Manilamen made many contributions including revolutionizing the shrimping industry.
5/19: As we celebrate AAPI month, did you know that Asian Pacific Americans make up about 7% of the US population. 75 countries make up Asia & the Pacific Islands. In addition, Asian Americans are the fastest growing racial or ethnic group in the U.S.

On May 15th, the Asian Culture Club will be holding 2 Asian Pacific Celebrations. During 3rd block and an evening event from 6-8 pm.
Join us for music, dance, games and more! Food will be available for purchase, so bring a few extra bucks to try some delicious treats!
