Hispanic Heritage Month is annually celebrated from September 15 to October 15 in the United States for recognizing the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States.

Hispanic Heritage Event October 13, 2023

On October 13, Ms. Gardella, Ms. Goros & Mr. Cerchio hosted the Hispanic Heritage Event during lunches at the CHS Courtyard. Faculty and students enjoyed music, food, and games. Students played Loteria and made tissue paper flowers to be used for the upcoming Day of the Dead Bulletin Board. Faculty enjoyed the pernil, empanadas and rice and beans. The newly minted Hispanic Heritage Club displayed their love for their countries by creating display boards to share with their peers; while the Spanish Honor Society spoke to students about the traditions of Spanish speaking countries.

Class Artifacts

In English 2, we read Three CommonLit articles about Rafael Trujillo and the three Mirabal Sisters (who were symbols of popular and feminist resistance). Trujillo had the three sisters assassinated six months before he was assassinated himself (by his own military).  After we read, highlighted, annotated, discussed, and watched some videos about the memorial and museum dedicated to Las Mariposas (The Butterflies was the famous nickname for these women), students were administered these assessments based upon their skill levels.
