Some background:
I graduated from JFK High School
I joined the Army reserve because I yearned for structure and discipline (didn't follow through with that)
Upon graduation I realized I had to get myself in gear so I got a full time job as a receptionist at a hair salon and moved into my own apartment to learn how to be responsible.
I began my college education at Middlesex County College a year after graduating-I started out as a Radiography major (X-ray technician) but realized dressing up in scrubs and being in a hospital environment (among other things) was not for me so I switched to early childhood education.
As I went through the education program I soon realized elementary level was not for me so I switched to secondary education & English with the goal set out to be a high school English teacher. I wanted to be a school counselor but at that time you had to have a teaching degree and experience first.
I transferred to Kean University (where I was an honor student) I point that out because I was lucky to get Cs in high school. When I applied myself I amazed myself, I never thought I was smart, until I tried.
I graduated from Kean with my Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education/English with Honors and got hired as a high school English teacher at JFK High School, my alma mater.
As much as I loved teaching, counseling kept calling me so I returned to Kean University to get my Master's degree in School Counseling with my SAC certification. I wanted to be more than a school counselor, my desire was to help students' dealing with more serious issues.
I graduated from Kean with my Master's degree in school counseling and my SAC certification and that brings me here today.
After teaching for 10 years I was ready for a change. I was lucky to intern with an amazing SAC counselor right here at JFK High School (Ms. Sikora), she went on to have two beautiful boys Liam & Gray so I was lucky to been fill in for as the SAC since 2019.
In 2022, I was appointed the SAC position, this is my dream career. I love helping students find their way, assisting them through issues and teaching them coping strategies. I am a true believer in learning these lessons at a young age and having emotional support will assist you in being a resilient, more positive adult.
On a personal Note:
I am married (22 years together)
I have two sons Andrew (13 years old) and Nicholas (11 years old)
