High school is a great time to start thinking about careers. It's okay to not know what you want to do for the rest of your life, but high school is the time to start thinking about your interests and how that can help you pursue a career. 

Learn about what you enjoy and what you are interested in. Do you need a college degree? Training? Certificates? A masters degree? 

Naviance/College & Career Planning

Naviance: 

a.    Log into your Naviance account-https://student.naviance.com/auth/fclookup

 b. Your username should be your personal email

 

Colleges tab:

a. Super Match College Search-search for colleges based on curriculum, quality of education, size, location, admission requirements, cost, campus life, security, facilities, housing, graduation rates, etc.

b.     Add colleges you are applying to          

c.     Sign up for College Visits

                                                         

Letters of Recommendation:

a. About Me tab>My Surveys>Letter of Recommendation Request form

b.     Ask teachers in person

c.     College Tab>Apply to Colleges>Letters of Recommendation>choose General Request

 

Admission Factors:

a.    Important-GPA, Class Rank, Rigor of Courses, SAT/ACT

b.    Considered-Essay, Extracurricular Activities, Letters of Recommendations

 

Application Process:   

a.   Complete the application on the college website (or Common App if applicable)

b.   For Common Application-match in Naviance

c.   Send SAT/ACT scores through collegeboard.org or act.org if required/using for application

d.   Apply for financial aid on www.fafsa.gov – application opens 10/1.  Check college websites for deadline

e.   Make final decision to accepted colleges by May 1

 

Types of Admissions:               

Early Decision (Binding), Early Action, Regular Admissions, On-Site, Rolling

 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.       Keep your Naviance account updated

2.       Notify your counselor where you need your transcripts/letters of recommendation sent

3.       Request transcripts and letters of recommendation at least 2 weeks before the deadline

4.       Complete the Graduation survey in June (so we know where to send the final transcript)
