CHANNEL
(An example of some art for my channel. Made by: giiode)
Channel branding is your overall look and identity. Your logo, banner, colors, and style all help people instantly recognize you and your content. Having a consistent theme makes your channel feel more professional and easier to remember, which can increase the likelihood of people subscribing and returning.
VIDEOS
(Some of my thumbnails. All made by: _r1o.)
When it comes to getting views, thumbnails and titles are the most important. They’re the first things people notice, and they decide if someone clicks on your video or just scrolls past it. A good video can fail if the thumbnail or title doesn’t catch attention. Descriptions are useful for giving more details and helping people find your videos in search (using keywords).
REPUTATION
This is how others perceive you as a creator over time. This is shaped by your content, your behavior, and your consistency. If people trust you and enjoy your videos, they are much more likely to continue watching and supporting you.
The better your reputation as a small creator, the greater your chances of having your content shared and protecting yourself from future rep issues.
Comments on your videos, recognition from big creators, and activity on other social media are great ways to track reputation.
MY EXPERIENCE
When I first started creating content, I did not fully understand branding or how important it was. My channel lacked a consistent theme, and I did not pay much attention to things like my profile picture or thumbnails. During most of 2025 and the beginning of this year, I worked on refining my branding and building a clearer identity for my content.
Throughout this process, I learned communication and professionalism skills by commissioning thumbnails, artwork, and anything else I may need. First on Fiverr and later through connections I built myself. This semester, I worked with both my main thumbnail artist and a new Fiverr artist for a smaller project, which helped me better understand collaboration and adapting branding styles for different kinds of content.
Over time, I have also gained a much better understanding of how the people you associate with can affect your standing and reputation online. This semester, a friend and I recorded a large event that I originally planned to make a video about. The event owner had been very supportive and was looking forward to promoting my video after it released. However, shortly afterward, a document was released detailing staff abuse, immature behavior, and other problematic actions connected to the organizer.
Because of this, I decided not to continue with the video or promote the event. The situation taught me the importance of protecting my reputation online and being careful about the people and projects I choose to associate with.
