My name is Jamel, I am 16 years old, and a Senior at BUHS. I have many passions including technology, Youth Empowerment, gaming, being kind, humor, investigating interesting topics, and childcare. I decided to FLEX due to the flexibility, the allowance to explore topics that interest me rather than broader classes like math and science, and the cherry on top it would help me get the credits I need to graduate early which is something I have been chasing for roughly 2 years now. I finally am so close to that goal thanks to FLEX I only have one more semester remaining of High School. During my time with the FLEX program I have learned a variety of topics from basic logo design, childcare, technology skills, IT skills, and more. I would 110% recommend the FLEX to anyone with a passion to do more, to do you, and to do your best. Now this doesn’t mean the class will be easier than any of your other classes, it likely won’t, but hopefully you will be able to more flexibly learn subjects that you find interest in. The FLEX process and structure is also flexible. However, you will first need to be recommended or approved by your counselor. When it comes to the schedule I had a very bendy schedule starting in the summer doing most of the work on my own and doing 2 phone calls, during the fall meeting once per week, and during the late fall/winter meeting on and off once per week. One thing I am very grateful for is the open mindedness of my instructor as without it I may as well have crumbled. As far as post high school plans go I have a few options I am considering. The main starting point is taking a gap year or summer to enjoy myself, then either going to college or into a suitable workplace for me. Something I will not be doing however is settling for less than me. I refuse to be underappreciated or put my potential to waste.
