Good evening!

I hope you enjoy this weekend! Remember that Monday, October 17th, Waterford does not have school. We will see you on Tuesday.

It is getting chillier and there is some talk that there may be snow in the upcoming week. Please make sure that your child is properly dressed. I would advise dressing students in layers- maybe having a sweatshirt that they can keep at school. Please always have a change of clothes for your student to store in their locker. Even our older students sometimes get wet from playing in the snow and need a change of clothes.

For our littles, this weekend would be a great time to practice getting on and off all of their snow gear. Remember, we are encouraging independence so patience is key as they learn to zip their jackets and tie their boots and shoes- but let them do it!

If your child is in need of any warm outdoor gear, please let the office know and we will make sure that we get you what you need. Also, if you are willing to donate any new or gently used coats, snow pants or boots, you can drop those off at the front office. (We are also always in need of kinder and first grade size pants and new packages of underwear)

All students should be aware of how they are getting home daily. We understand that sometimes things change. Please remember that all changes in dismissal routine must be communicated to the main office no later than 3:15 PM. (2:15 on Thursdays)so that we can assure the change is able to take place. On the rare occasion that a student needs to be picked up early, they must be signed out before 3:40 PM. After 3:40, all adults will be asked to wait outside for the student to exit using their regular dismissal routine. Thank you for understanding that safety is our first priority.

Scholastic Book Fair will take place from October 24th -October 28th at the Beaumont Library. Volunteers are needed for set up and break down as well as helping students shop for book throughout the week. Call and speak to Juliann in the office if you want to volunteer. (Form has to be filled out and approved at least 48 hours before you volunteer)

One of our Book Fair goals is to ensure as many children as possible have access to and receive books. One of the ways we can do that is through the All for Books program. With your help, donations will purchase books for children who could not otherwise afford them. Books from the book fair will be given out to some other students too. With your help, last year we raised $800 and gave away books to all students that were unable to shop our fall and spring book fairs. To make this more fun we are tying it in with Bengal Spirit Days.

Tuesday 10/18– Oh, the Places You’ll Go – bring pennies and nickels and dress for success

Wednesday 10/19 – Piggy and Gerald Day – bring dimes and dress to match a friend

Thursday 10/20– Dog Man Day – bring quarters wear a shirt with words on it.

Friday 10/21– llama llama Red Pajama – bring dollars and any coins and wear your pajamas.

Monday 10/24 Start of the book Fair – wear Beaumont Bengal Spirit Wear

Trunk or Treat is on October 27th, 6-7 PM. Call the front office and speak to Juliann if you are interested in "hosting" a trunk. This is such a great event hosted in the Beaumont Parking lot. Overflow parking will be at the church next door. We are also taking candy donations for this event!

FALL SPIRIT WEEK- Let's keep the FUN going!

Monday 10/24- Hat and Head Wear Day

Tuesday 10/25- Flannel Day (Mrs. Walsh's Favorite Day!)

Wednesday 10/26- Spooky Hair and Sock Day

Thursday 10/27- Halloween Shirt/Fall Color Day

Friday 10/28- Pajama Day

Monday, October 31 is a half day AND Halloween. There will be a Halloween parade at 11:30 AM before dismissal. Parents will line up outside on the side walk between Door 6 and Door 9. If there is inclement weather, we will have the parade in the gym. Not all teachers are in need of volunteers for their classroom parties, but if you are volunteering, you need a form filled out no later than Wednesday, October 26th. No exceptions. (If you have already filled out a form this year, you do not have to fill another one out. Call the office with questions)

Both Kindergarten and 5th grade have upcoming field trips. If you need more information, please reach out to your teachers. If you are a volunteer chaperone, remember you need to have an approved 22/23 school year volunteer affidavit on file. Please allow at least 48 hours for processing and approval.

Waterford School District has a very interesting history. Did you know it is believed WSD began the first public school in Oakland County in 1821?. There were nine different capsules filled with a variety of items representing the 1995-1997 school years. We unearthed the contents and have created a special Time Capsule Museum so the public can view all displayable artifacts for a limited time. Our hope is the Time Capsule Museum will allow our students, staff and alumni to enjoy and engage with our district’s rich history.

We have created two versions of the museum:

1. You can check out the artifacts in person at the upcoming Mott vs. Kettering football game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2022. Entrance to the museum is free; you must purchase a game ticket to enter the event. We will have a tent set up just outside the football field at Mott High School displaying the artifacts, so feel free to stop by and take a look!

2. The museum is available virtually at www.wsdmi.org/timecapsule. If you can’t make it to the game, check out the website, which displays some photos of the contents we found, along with other information.

The next PTO meeting will be on November 10th at 5 PM (Please note an earlier time)

Finally, CONGRATULATIONS to Mrs. Elton's kindergarten class for raising the most money for the Fun Run! Students will be able to silly string Mrs. Elton and two additional staff members of their choice.

Also, Logan and Jessie Ogg won Principal for a Day with Mrs. Walsh for raising the most money! Congratulations and I cannot wait for this fun day!

Enjoy the rest of the week!

-Mrs. Walsh

Second Step Information

Dear Families,

This month, our schoolwide theme is skills for learning: listening, focusing attention, using self-talk to stay on-task, and being assertive when asking for help with a learning task. In our morning announcements and school assembly, we’ll be reminding students of these skills, which help students be successful learners.

Second Step lessons teach skills for learning. You’ll be receiving Home Links describing why these skills are important and including fun activities to do with your child to practice them. We hope you enjoy them!

Please tell your child’s teacher if you’d like more suggestions about supporting skills for learning at home.

Chromebooks and 1:1 Information/Support

Be on the lookout for your student to arrive home with their school-issued chromebook. It is so important that they charge their device and bring back the next day. Depending on grade level and teacher will determine how often your student will bring the device home. Below are some helpful links to assist you.
