A recent addition to the VPA Department, this program of courses explores how artmaking- including opportunities for creative writing, dance, drama, music, visual arts, and environmental education, can be applied to nurture health and wellbeing.
Gr. 9 Creative Habits
VAHP1S
This course focuses on the understanding and development of creative skills- curiosity, goal setting, noticing, experimentation, failure, perseverance, generosity, critical evaluation, reflection, etc. These creative skills are all applicable for every subject of interest! This course is open to all Grade 9 students, with or without an arts background. Students have choices with project media and design.
Gr. 10-12 Wellness and the Arts

This course explores how the arts, including creative writing, dance, drama, music, visual arts, and environmental education, can be applied to nurture well-being, in self- reflective, relational, and community contexts. Students will be encouraged to exercise their creativity, build community, and cultivate resilience through arts-based wellness experiences while learning foundational mental health theory and approaches. Students will discover the effects when arts enter places such as hospitals, schools, prisons, parks, and aged care centres. Overall, students will have an experiential understanding of the importance of arts for community health, care, and joy.
Gr. 10 Physical Education, Health, and Arts – PHER2F
The focus of this course is to help students understand what it means to live a healthy and active lifestyle. This course will address numerous topics related to individual involvement in physical activity, relationships, and healthy lifestyle practices.
This section specifically, explores alternative to sports activities, not only but including walking, circus arts, yoga, dance, Pilates, Tai chi, games, etc. There will be projects inviting students to create artworks, choreography, and collaborative poster designs to reveal learning.
