Drama 9 is a half credit course designed to introduce students to a range of theatrical forms. Students will work together in groups to create, rehearse, and perform short improvised scenes. The focus of this course is on teamwork, building confidence, and using improvisation to experiment with ideas.
Drama 10 is a full credit course which builds upon basic acting skills learned in previous grades. Students refine their vocal and physical presence on stage, and use these skills to create a wide range of characters. Students perform radio plays, commercial voice overs, slam poetry, and contemporary scripted scenes.
Drama 11 focuses on scenework and monologues. Students perform contemporary and classical scenes in a variety of different styles. Scenes increase in length and complexity as the course progresses. Students are given an opportunity to participate in a practice audition in front of a panel of professionals currently working in industry.
In Drama 12 students combine past skills to mount a full length play which is performed in late May. Students are involved in all aspects of the production including acting, directing, sound, lighting, set design, and costuming. Creating an acting resume and headshot, and learning about audition technique and etiquette are also features of this course.
Kelvin's theatre troupe is an extra-curricular group who meet once a week to play theatre games, have fun, create theatre, and perform.
