example of information letter

March 26, 2020

Dear Future Student,

Have you ever wished school was cancelled? In the spring of 2020 most of the country's businesses and schools were closed due to CORVID-19, a world-wide virus pandemic. The main reason was to slow the spread of the new virus. A local reason was to keep our families safe from getting and spreading the virus. The third reason was to help hospitals spread out the amount of people getting sick at one time, so they could help everyone that needed it. I hope you will continue reading to find out more about it.

The main reason businesses and schools were closed was to stop the world-wide spread of a new virus. Even though the virus started in China, as people traveled, it quickly spread to other places. Governments soon realized they needed to help by making rules to limit travel. They concluded, going to school became a form of travel because children were bringing germs from home, sharing them with other students though play and work at school, and taking them back to their homes. On the website sciencemag.org it states, "Does shutting a school help a broader community, especially when the role played by children in spreading COVID-19 remains uncertain? Nicholas Christakis, a social scientist and physician at Yale University, thinks it does."

A local reason to close businesses and schools was to keep our families safe from getting and spreading the virus. By staying home with family, one had less chance of passing the virus. Also, families could keep surfaces clean and keep track of good hygiene in case of exposure. It was especially important to keep grandparents and people with fragile health safe by social distancing. The CDC.org stated, "Older adults, 65 years and older, are at higher risk for severe illness."

The third reason for closing businesses and schools was to help spread out the amount of people getting sick at one time, so hospitals could help everyone that needed it. The idea was, if people would distance themselves, they would not all get sick at the same time. Hospitals would have the resources, including doctors and nurses, needed to help everyone get better. New modeling research, published in The Lancet Public Health journal, suggests that "school and workplace closures in Wuhan, China have reduced the number of COVID-19 cases and substantially delayed the epidemic peak -- giving the health system the time and opportunity to expand and respond."

Will closing most of the country's businesses and schools in the spring of 2020 due to CORVID-19, a world-wide virus pandemic, have the desired effect? Will we slow the spread of the virus? Will we keep our families safe from getting and spreading the virus? Will we help hospitals spread out the amount of people getting sick at one time, so they could help everyone that needed it? Only time will tell. Until then, I hope you have learned something new about this important topic.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Swanson

Example of Opinion Letter

 March 23, 2020

Dear Mrs. Swanson,

What do you think about school being canceled until May? I do not enjoy it. :( For starters, There are a lot of extracurricular activities that we don't get to participate in anymore. Also, school is much more helpful for kids to learn, concentrate, and ask questions that they need to ask. Finally, at school, you get to hang out with your fellow peers. If you will, please take the time to finish reading my essay on why I don't enjoy school being canceled until May.

Extracurricular activities are very important for child growth. First of all, doing an extracurricular activity can help boost the child's brain and capability. Secondly, extracurricular activities are good to give the students that grasp concepts well, something else to work on. Third, in the article "The Importance of Extracurricular Activities for Children" by Dr. Kelly Everson and Dr. Brandi Rials, it states, "Certain children will excel at learning a new language, playing an instrument or taking an art class, while others need physical activities such as soccer, gymnastics or swimming. ... As long as children are not overbooked with responsibilities, extracurricular activities can be a great opportunity for growth."

Being at school can help kids concentrate, learn, and ask questions that they need to ask. To begin with, when you are at school you have teachers and aids helping you at all times, while at home you don't. To follow up, being at school is a helpful learning environment. Lastly, in the article "Always-On Inquiry: Why You Should Be Asking More Questions In Your Classroom" it states, "As teachers, we know that not everything we say will be understood the first time. In fact, it makes our job a lot easier when we are asked a question that can clarify a misunderstanding or explain something in a better way. Teaching students to ask effective questions can reveal what that child doesn’t understand, giving us that chance to fill in the gaps and likely improve understanding for other students too."

Hanging out with your fellow peers is an essential part of school too. In the first place, it is healthy for kids to have friends in school and develop social skills. Usually, students will do better in school if they have many, (or a few) peers. Above all, in the article "The Importance of Friendship for School-Age Children" it states, "Children tend to have better attitudes about school and learning when they have friends there. In short, children benefit greatly from having friends."

Now, what do you think about school being canceled until May? I still do not enjoy it. :( For starters, There are a lot of extracurricular activities that we don't get to participate in anymore. Also, it is much more helpful for kids to learn, concentrate, and ask questions that they need to ask while in school. Finally, at school, you get to hang out with your fellow peers. Thank you for reading my essay on why I do not enjoy school being canceled until May.

Please get back to me soon.

                      Deepest Regards,
