Consequences for my choices:
A student making good choices throughout the week earns the respect of all. We will be Respectful, Responsible & Safe.
A student making poor choices will receive the appropriate attention needed - reminders, reset time, calls home, ...

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
I hope this letter finds you well. We’re excited for the start of a new year.
This letter is a follow-up to Superintendent Butter’s August 1 Welcome Back letter, in which she
discussed the district’s new student electronic device policy. As part of our ongoing efforts to
create a productive and secure learning environment, I would like to take this opportunity before
school begins to remind you of this updated policy. Weber School District (WSD) recognizes the
value of electronic devices in enhancing instruction and communication. However, to prevent
potential disruptions and address safety and privacy concerns, it is essential to manage their
use responsibly. Our aim is to maintain an environment that promotes effective teaching and
learning.
Key Procedures
Prohibited Uses:
● Instructional Time: Students may not use privately owned electronic devices during
instructional time. Devices should be kept out of sight and on silent mode, with
headphones/earbuds/AirPods removed. “Instructional time” begins when the morning
bell rings and ends when the end-of-day bell rings.
● Inappropriate Uses: Even during times when devices are allowed (after school, on
busses, etc.) devices must not be used for activities that harass, invade privacy, or
record or transmit images or audio without the consent of the person being recorded.
Permitted Uses:
● Students may use their devices after school hours, on the bus, or as needed in
accordance with an approved 504 plan.
Student Violations
Violations of this policy will result in the following consequences:
1. First Violation: Redirect/reteach by the teacher.
2. Second Violation: Device will be taken and held by the teacher until the end of class
and parent/guardian will be notified.
3. Third Violation: Device will be taken and held at the office until the end of the school
day, when the student may pick it up.
4. Fourth Violation: Device will be taken and held at the office until picked up by a
parent/guardian.
5. Subsequent Violations: May result in more severe disciplinary actions, including
leaving the electronic device at home for a period of time, or possibly suspension.
Students or parents must claim confiscated devices within ten business days. The school is not
responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal devices. If you have concerns about your
student’s device–or any other valuable item–being lost, stolen, or damaged, please keep those
items at home.
By limiting the utilization of electronic devices at school, we aim to foster a more focused,
engaging, and interactive educational environment. We understand that this policy change may
require an adjustment period, especially as the school year begins. Your cooperation and
support are crucial as we implement this change. Together, we can create a school environment
that prioritizes learning and prepares our students for a successful future.
Thank you for your understanding and partnership! We wish you all the best school year ever!
Sincerely,
Dax Sederholm
