What if I don't have a high GPA or SAT score?
Be careful not to fall for the myth that scholarships are only for those students with high GPA's, SAT scores, or those with financial hardship. In truth, there are many scholarships for students with all levels of academic achievement, cultural backgrounds, career interests, hobbies, and passions.
What kind of interests or activities can I get scholarships for?
In the past, West Seneca students have earned many scholarships based on many different interests, activities, and volunteerism. This includes extracurricular activities, scholarships from their or their parent's place of employment, or those awarded directly from colleges.

How can I tell if a scholarships is legitimate or a scam?
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) lists these claims that should raise a red flag as being a scam:
"The scholarship is guaranteed or your money back". No one can guarantee to get you a grant or scholarship and you should never pay to apply to one.
"You can't get this info anywhere else". Scholarship search engines access databases that you can surf for free on the internet yourself.
"May I have your credit card or bank account number to hold this scholarship for you"? Never give out your bank or credit card info.
"We'll do all the work". Many scholarships require an essay and application.
"You've been selected by a national foundation to receive a scholarship", or "You're a finalist" in a contest you never entered. According to the FTC, a number of bogus search companies falsely claim they are foundations or nonprofits to make their offer look legitimate.
