Early action is a non-binding early round application. This means you are not obligated to attend if accepted by the university through Early Action. It indicates you are very interested in a school and is a benefit of applying early.
Early decision is a binding early round application where you sign a contract saying that you will attend the school if you are accepted. Only use this option for a school that is a clear first choice. If you are accepted to a university through early decision you must withdraw your other applications to any other universities you applied to.
Complete the Transcript Request Form to obtain an unofficial copy of or send your official transcript to colleges or scholarships.
Students requiring a Counselor or Teacher Recommendation will need to complete a brag sheet and submit a copy to their recommender at least 2 weeks before the recommendation letter is due. Not all colleges require this but many do; as do many scholarship applications.
When requesting a letter of recommendation, you should email the person you would like the letter from and attach a copy of the completed Brag Sheet to provide additional information that will enhance the quality and depth of your recommendation.
If you are using the Common App to apply to college, you will be prompted through the application to add your recommenders emails under the FERPA/Recommenders tab on your application. The Common App will send your recommenders a link via email to upload their letter directly to the application.
If you are using the SUNY App to apply, your counselor must upload a copy of your teacher recommendations through the counselor portal. You can either have your recommenders give you a copy of their letter and give that to your counselor or your recommenders may email their letters directly to your counselor to upload to your application.
Keep in mind that teachers are on break for the summer so if you are requesting letters of recommendation during that time, teachers may not get back to you until September.
