MakerSpace Update
MakerSpace Update
During Bear Block throughout the month of June, students helped assemble many of the storage units purchased through a generous STEM grant from Freudenberg. These storage units will house tools and supplies to be used in the WRHS MakerSpace. The grant also allowed us to purchase many introductory kits and equipment in which students may explore 3D Printing, Laser Cutting, Robotics, Virtual Reality and Electronic Circuitry.

TGIF isn't just for adults. Students experience the same relief that Friday has arrived that adults in the working world experience. After a long week of learning, they are ready for a break from the regular classroom routine. In the WRHS Learning Commons we have designed several activities that are entertaining and engaging, while still providing educational value, providing our students with that well-deserved break while adhering to the curriculum.

School Library Month (SLM) is the American Association of School Librarians' (AASL) celebration of school librarians and their programs. First celebrated in 1985 (as School Library Media Month; the name was changed to School Library Month in 2010), every April school librarians are encouraged to create activities to help their school and local community celebrate the essential role that strong school library programs play in a student's educational career.

On Monday, March 14th, the WRHS Learning Commons hosted an Eat & Explore in celebration of National PI Day. Students participated during their A, B, or C Lunch and experienced the many ways Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) use this fascinating irrational number and how it can be found throughout our lives. Activities included Raspberry Pi digital games, MakeyMakey Banana bongos & piano, Sphero Robot races and Dash & Cue coding, Digits of Pi Card Games, Paper Chains, games of Connect Four, AND MORE!

WRHS is helping Hall Memorial Library with a Book Battle and challenging Baker Free Library in Bow during the month of February. It's just a friendly competition to see which library can have patrons log the most time reading. There will be a small ballot along with bookmarks in the WRHS Learning Commons in which you can record your minutes and then submit them to the ballot box.

Gaming at the library encourages patrons of all ages to interact with diverse peers, share their expertise and develop new strategies for gaming and learning. At the library, students can socialize with their friends, play board and video games, and develop critical thinking skills while surrounded by books, librarians and a real world of knowledge.

#TeenTober is a new, nationwide American Library Association (ALA) celebration hosted by libraries everywhere during the month of October. #TeenTober aims to celebrate teens, promote year-round teen services and the innovative ways teen services help teens learn new skills, and fuel their passions in and outside the library.

These teen inspired activities included Black Out Poetry, Audio Book Reviews, Game Day Challenges, Green Screen Production, Ghoulish Crafts, and Spooktacular Trivia. Additionally, students from Ms. Schnieder’s English classes conducted research in the library for their projects in Fright Fair and Heroes vs Villains. For the Fright Fair Project students created scary posters, multimedia projects, and creative writing pieces.

Reserve/HOLD a book for pick up either Tues. or Thurs. from 7am to noon OR access eBooks and Audio-books right online. Students will need to log into our Destiny Discover system (destinydiscover.com) using their WRSD Google account. Take a look at these easy steps on How to access Destiny Discover or schedule a time for a guided virtual tour with your students.
