Students must have a 'sponsor' when testing for their driver's license. The sponsor can be a MA licensed driver, at least 21 years old, with at least one year of driving experience or a licensed driving school instructor.
Non-WRHS Driver Ed Sponsor
Students schedule their road test directly with the RMV once all of their requirements have been met. See the RMV website for complete requirements and to schedule a road test.
Students are responsible for bringing a personal vehicle to be used for the road test. This vehicle must be equipped with an emergency brake or electronic type E brake in the center console that is accessible to the examiner.
WRHS Driver Ed Instructor Sponsor
Students may request a WRHS Driver Ed instructor to sponsor them for their road test.
The sponsor cost is $150, payable by check or money order, made out to WRSD. This fee is separate from the RMV road test and license fees.
Students will meet their sponsor at the Driver Ed area one hour prior to the appointment time. Students must bring a note for dismissal to the Main Office on the morning of their road test in order to be dismissed from class.
Students must bring their Learner's Permit (no copies or images allowed), signed road exam application and glasses/contacts (if letter B restriction is noted on the Learner's Permit).

To request a WRHS Driver's Ed sponsored road test, please contact Deb Flynn once you have been notified that your RMV paperwork has been processed. Most road tests will be weekdays at the Leominster RMV. *Please include any dates/times that you are not available for a road test.
Arrive a few minutes early.
Take a deep breath and show you are confident. Think about what you are doing at each step.
Know your hand signals.
Know your vehicles controls (turn signals, windshield wipers, window defrosters, etc..).
Use your seat belt properly.
Make sure your examiner/sponsor (passengers) wears their seat belts. Your are responsible for your passengers.
Know how to use your E-brake and remove the E-brake before shifting into gear.
Select the proper gear: reverse for backing out of a space, and drive for driving forward.
Remember, if your windshield wipers are on, your lights must be on.
Make safe driving decisions, avoid cutting off traffic, wait for a safe gap in traffic to proceed.
Make a complete, 3 second stop at all stop signs.
Stop at the stop line or stop sign. Don't block crosswalks.
Stay in your lane
Don't cross over solid lines, yellow or white or attempt to pass a stopped vehicle by crossing into the shoulder
Yield to oncoming traffic on all left turns.
Look behind you when backing up. Don’t proceed if cars or pedestrians are moving behind you from either direction.
When entering a rotary, yield to traffic in the rotary. Scan, yield, enter and continue scanning for traffic entering the rotary as you proceed through.
Don't hit or drive over curbs.
Make safe, smooth, controlled turns. Stay in your lane as you turn.
Avoid stopping needlessly in traffic or intersections.
Know how to secure the vehicle, make a 3-point turn without hitting the curb and parallel park behind any size vehicle
Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
Leave a safe following distance at all times.
Signal and look over your shoulder whenever you move into traffic, change lanes etc...
Stop for pedestrians if they step off the curb, even in parking lots.
Signal, pull over and stop for emergency vehicles. Signal and look before going back into traffic.
You should be able to pull over to the right side and back up in a straight line about 50 feet, secure the vehicle properly, do a three point turn and a parallel park (scroll down for step-by-step) behind any size vehicle
Watch for and follow posted speed limit signs
Posted speed limits apply to clear, dry conditions. Modify speed accordingly for visibility and weather conditions.
20 mph in school zones, no exceptions.
Stop for school buses with flashing lights or stop arm extended.
Step-by Step Parallel Park:
Signal and pull up next to the vehicle you wish to park behind – If you are parking next to a trailer, line up your rear bumper with the back of the trailer or even a little further back then proceed as normal
If the car you are parking next to is parked facing the opposite direction use the front door handle of the parked car to line your mirror up with
Make sure the space is at least 1.5 times the length of your car, and that there are no pedestrians or other hazards
Keep about 1.5 to 2 feet of space between the two cars
Line up mirror to mirror or mirror to door handle and also use rear bumper to rear bumper
Turn the wheel all the way left and roll back into place, turn the wheel to the right 360 degrees
Roll back until your right mirror overlaps the left rear taillight of the parked car or until you have a 45 degree angle
Straighten your wheels and roll back until your right mirror overlaps the license plate of the parked car
If parking next to any type of large van, truck or trailer which they sometimes use, it might be easiest to line up your rear bumper to the vehicles read bumper or even go just a bit further back than that to start in order to make sure you clear the vehicle before turning the wheel the opposite way and into the space.

Remember to secure the car properly, Uphill with a curb turn to the left/downhill or level turn to the right, pull up parking brake, car in park
