• The Glen Armitage Memorial Education Fund was created in 2008 to support a member of a needy rural family in desiring advanced education. Founded by family members of the late Glen Armitage, the fund is designed to serve a rural Alberta family who can pursue Glen’s dream of continuing education.

Description:

• The ASAA invites scholarship nominations for students currently registered in ASAA member high schools who are planning to graduate in June and attend post secondary education in September. The award is for students who milk every moment, achieving a balance in school, home, and community life.

• Each ASAA member school can nominate one male and one female for this scholarship. Please check with your school about being their nominee.

Criteria:

• Be a grade 12 student registered in an ASAA member school and an Alberta resident

• Participate in athletic activities. This can be active participation in school intramurals throughoutthe year, being a member of a school sports team or participation in an activity that is not a school sport, such as dance, ballet, water polo, fencing, hockey, karate, etc. Please note that priority will be given to those student athletes who have participated in an ASAA sanctioned sport.

• Show personal development and involvement in activities other than athletics and academics. For example, community work, hobbies, clubs, youth programs, leadership,etc.

• Plan to attend a post-secondary educational facility in Canada.

• Write a 250-500 word essay exploring what sports, healthy eating, and refueling your body mean to you (see application page for more details)

Description:

• Michael Vaughan was the consummate advocate for the highest level of ethical behavior in sport and in life, including excellent sportsmanship and enthusiasm for sport, which he orchestrated from his home/school in Three Hills, Alberta. In his various roles of South Central Zone secretary, ASAA Executive Committee member, ASAA Championship host, CIAAA Course instructor, ASAA !MPACT workshop author and leader, teacher, coach and official, Michael walked the talk, setting high standards for himself and those around him, but also being prepared to hold others responsible for stepping over the line between right and wrong. The Spirit of Sport that Michael modeled made him stand out from others. Michael passed away in March 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. In 2021, he was inducted into the ASAA’s Sports Hall of Fame as an Athletic Administrator along with his wife Shauna.

Criteria:

• Applicants for the Michael Vaughan Spirit of Sport Scholarship must:

  1. Be a Grade 12 student at an ASAA member school

  2. Participate in multiple activities as an athlete (one sport must be an ASAA sport)

  3. Have applied and been accepted to a qualified post-secondary institution for the upcoming school year.

  4. Exhibit outstanding character, be a total team player by exhibiting behaviour that demonstrates putting their teammates before themselves, demonstrate the highest level of sportsmanship during their athletic career and serve as a role model for all students at their high school.

  5. Display evidence in enhancing culture, building community, and providing leadership through their actions with sport.

Description:

• CABEF awards seven $2,500 scholarships annually to full-time students enrolling or currently in an agricultural related program at a Canadian university, college or apprenticeship institution. These scholarships are funded through generous donations from agri-business and people involved in the agricultural and food industry.

• Students from across Canada are invited to apply. One scholarship will be awarded in the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Québec, the Atlantic Provinces as a whole and one from British Columbia/Territories.

• Masterfeeds will award a scholarship of $1,000 to the winning applicant that can demonstrate their passion and potential through an essay about what they hope to achieve for the future of food production or other ag-related pursuits through their education.   • Application for an Agnes Jacks Scholarship Award may be made by:

• ringette players registered with one of Ringette Canada’s provincial/territorial member associations,

• NCCP-certified ringette coaches, and

• active on-ice ringette-certified officials.

• • Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a recognized post-secondary education institution for the next academic year. Applicants must meet the admission standards of the educational institution specified, which must be a university, college or other educational institution located in Canada providing courses at a post-secondary school level. 

  • Applicants must have actively participated in ringette as player, coach or on-ice official for at least five of the last seven years and must be registered in the current playing season.

  • Successful applicants will be those who have demonstrated sustained commitment to the sport of ringette through playing, coaching, officiating and other volunteer activities.

• Cara Brown Ringette Scholarship ~ 2 scholarships at $1000 

  • Application for a Cara Brown Ringette Scholarship may be made by ringette players who:

• are registered with one of Ringette Canada’s provincial/territorial member associations and are actively playing ringette at the AA level (or at the highest level offered in the applicant’s community) during the current  playing season,

• will be entering a Canadian university on a full-time basis for the first time in the next  academic year,

• have achieved academic excellence (minimum B average or equivalent), and

• have demonstrated a strong commitment to the sport of ringette.

Amount: $12,000 over two years and is non-repayable if you agree to live and work in the north upon graduation. Your return service is one year of full time employment in your field of studies for each year of bursary support received.  Some careers in high demand now include education, medical and health, engineering and technical fields and social work. 

Description:

• The NADC Bursary is a return service bursary of $6,000 per year for a maximum of two years, and is offered to students entering their last two years of post-secondary studies or entering a program that is one or two years in length. It is meant to encourage students to train for jobs that are in demand in northern Alberta. 

• Students must apply for the bursary for each year they want to be considered.

Criteria:

• To be eligible to apply for the NADC bursary, you must:

  • Have been a resident of Alberta for 12 consecutive months before the start of your program,

  • Be enrolled or have applied for a full-time post-secondary program designated for provincial funding,

  • Be entering your last or second to last year of your post-secondary program in the fall,

  • Be in a program that is at least 12 weeks in length for a half bursary and 16 weeks in length for a full bursary, and

  • Not be in default of a provincial student loan.

• Selected recipients sign a return service contract with Alberta Advanced Education.

Description:

• This new scholarship program will help amplify the aspirations of 15-18 year olds with an interest in pursuing a career path in music. Through a financial award and unique mentorship opportunities, the MusiCounts Amplify Scholarship will equip students with the resources and connections they need to take their passion for music to the next level. 

• The MusiCounts Amplify Scholarship aims to nurture potential and create opportunity. With that said, this scholarship is not intended for those with the most accolades, musical training, or the strongest academic track record. Rather, this program is focused on investing in the success of aspiring music professionals with talent and potential who also face barriers in building a career in music. 

Criteria:

• All high schools and community music organizations may nominate up to three 15-18 year olds for this scholarship in the following areas:

  • Music Creation

    • For aspiring songwriters, composers, producers, and electronic music creators. 

  • Music Leadership

    • For aspiring instrumentalists/vocalists in contemporary music (rock, pop, hip hop, R&B, rap, jazz, folk, alternative, country, traditional, etc).* 

  • Music Performance

    • For aspiring music educators, music mentors, or those who use music to inspire others and advocate for positive change and social justice in their community.

• Available for school aged students who contribute their time to coaching and officiating in either the school or community. We want to reward those students who “give back”. Sometimes opportunities present in the community, not the school.

Criteria:

• The student must be in good standing at their school,

• The student must demonstrate their involvement in non-Covid-19 impacted years as a volunteer for any grade 10, 11, and 12 year, in either ASAA or community sports.  Can be in the capacity as: coach, assistant coach, official, or administrative duties such as statistician, team manager, score keeping, video technician, publications, media coverage, etc.
