2022

We had the opportunity to pop up at the Wetaskiwin Parade of Programs in Fall 2022. This gave us an opportunity to connect with community members, promote our programming and make new connections with other service providers!

Rural Mental Health Project

Our team has the pleasure of being part of the SMILES of Joy Rural Mental Health Project Committee. The Committee received a $10,000 grant to put together mental health-focused events for the community of Millet. With help from multiple collaborators we were able to host and help with:

  • Understanding Mental Health Presentation to the Millet Seniors Association

  • Winter Family Fun Night @ Griffiths Scott School

  • Millet Walk 'n Talk

& more!

Wetaskiwin & Millet Walk 'n Talk!

This Fall the WRPS Wellness Support Team hosted our first annual Walk 'n Talk events in Wetaskiwin and Millet! These events encouraged people to take a walk around their community while they encountered signs that asked them questions related to mental health and self care.

One of our participants remarked: "We never talked about this when I was a kid! It was nice to hear my daughter and granddaughter's answers and compare them to my own!"

Wetaskiwin Family Medical Practice made a contribution to the WRPS Wellness Support Team to support their programming in honour of Bell Let's Talk Day 2022.

Pink Shirt Day celebrations were underway, with presentations, activities, visual displays (pictured below) and guest speakers!

Stream Kindness 2022

During the month of February, we challenged our two rural high schools to a contest. They had to come up with and submit a video that shows how they define kindness. Pigeon Lake Regional School came out on top with 66% of the vote!

PLRS' submission included teacher Mr. Bengert asking students "What do you like about our school?" Their submission received the most votes during the voting period, securing the win and the title of Kindness Champions for 2022.

During Mental Health Week 2022, we decided to ask our local adults to share their definition of empathy with our students, and then share how they use empathy in their jobs. Our interviewees included:

  • A doctor

  • A firefighter

  • A mayor

  • A funeral direction

  • A peace officer

  • An RCMP officer

  • An Indigenous Support Worker

  • A Catholic Social Services worker

  • A Veterinarian

In collaboration with the Millet Wellness Committee, we provided yoga, meditation and physical activities at a local Family Fun Day in Millet, AB.
