Varsity Boys Hockey Team Start of Season Update (Fri, Dec. 1st)

The varsity boys hockey team from WCI kicked off their season this past week, coming up just short in an intense 4-3 affair with Laurel Heights. The Vikes were unable to defend their 9-3 exhibition game win over LHSS in the week prior, where Noah Myke had a great performance earning him Athlete of the Week! The boys had a strong game this past Tuesday, having a hot start putting up three goals in the first and jumping out to a 3-1 lead. The Hurricanes’ pushed back and overcame the deficit scoring a power play goal late in the third period. The team is full of seventeen skilled and passionate players from all grades, the boys are excited to have a competitive season. With a solid start last week, they are looking to get into the win column this week in two road games against opponents from Cambridge. They travel to Hespeler arena to take on Jacob Hespeler on Tuesday at 2:30pm, they pick back up at the Galt Arena Gardens on Thursday afternoon against Glenview at 2:00pm. The anticipation is brewing for the season ahead, the boys are looking to find success in the regular season, along with their tournament right before the Holiday break, the Mckerlie Classic en route to the end goal of playoffs! Goodluck this season Boys!

Varsity Boys Hockey Team Looks To Make Late Season Playoff Push

(Fri, Jan. 19th)

The boys varsity hockey team has had a great season so far, battling with some tough opponents and pulling off some lopsided wins along the way. To this point, the Vikings are holding onto the 8th and final WCSSAA playoff spot. Their big 9-3 win over The Galt Ghosts yesterday afternoon helped them jump into the 8 seed. The Vikes have turned on the burners as of late, winning five of their last seven regular season games and tallying at least 7 goals in each of the three wins. They even had a strong showing at this years McKerlie Classic, playing three tough teams and just missing the Quarter Final with a 1-2 record. The vikes goaltenders have also stepped up when it matters this season. Grade 12 goalie Ethan Bryans recently picked up a shutout in a 7-0 victory over Huron Heights in his second of three regular season wins. Grade 9 rookie Eddie Ilcenko played a strong game and managed to pick up his first WCSSAA hockey victory by a final score of 7-3 against Forest Heights. Eddie Was also named athlete of the week for January 15th - 19th! With the team seemingly clicking at the right time, the Vikes will look to continue this momentum moving into the final week of games. Their 4-5-1 record has them at 13 points, sitting just one point up on both Preston and Southwood for the last spot. The boys have two tough matchups to begin the month of February, first facing off against Elmira (2nd place) On Tuesday, February 6th at 2:30pm. Followed by a crucial battle with Preston (9th place) On Thursday, February 8th at 2:30pm. These are two tough tests and the Vikes will need to walk away with at least three points to have a shot at playoffs. Both games will be played At Albert McCormick, Tuesday is on the West rink and Thursday is on the East rink. Make sure to come out and cheer on the team in their final two regular season games as they look to clinch the postseason! Good luck Fellas!

Great Season Vikes!

(Fri, Feb 23)

The Vikings Boys Varsity Hockey team battled with heart throughout the entire season. Finishing with 5 outstanding victories which earned them their ticket to the WCSSAA playoffs where they would play the first seed team. Unfortunately they fell to the Grand River Renegades in a tough match. Although they didn’t end the season how they hoped they would, we are still incredibly proud of them for their first playoff appearance since 2019!Thank you to captains Jackson McNichol, Keaton Schaefer, Jacob Tauer, Delsin Gibbs for your hard work, dedication and leadership throughout the whole season. Showed grit and determination that echoed throughout the rest of the squad. We would also like to recognize our gradutation players; Great season vikes!
