Below are some Frequently Asked Questions about auditions. Please browse through to see if your question is answered!
What do I need to do in order to audition?
A sign-up sheet will be available to sign in the auditorium the week before auditions. It will also be distributed to those who attend the first general meeting. Students must obtain parental/guardian consent in order to be a part of this club!
How does the sign-up sheet work? Aren't there time slots?
We do not use time slots to avoid extra down time and gaps between auditioners. This helps us all finish up quickly! When you sign up, you will be signing up in the order of your arrival from the sheet. Everyone needs to report to the auditorium immediately after school, regardless of where you are on the audition sign-up sheet.
What if I'm absent and miss sign-ups?
Email Mrs. Prindiville ASAP and we will enter your name into an audition slot, if one is available.
What do I need to prepare for auditions?
Audition monologues and/or songs will be posted on this website prior to auditions. Please choose ONE of the audition monologues or songs for your audition.
Do 6th and 7th graders ever get lead roles?
Yes!! It is absolutely possible for 6th and 7th graders to get a lead or supporting role. We approach casting decisions by what is best for the show and which students are the best fit for each individual role. In the past, there have been 6th and 7th graders who have landed supporting or lead roles. That being said, most 6th graders typically start off with ensemble roles as they get used to acting in Drama Club.
Do I need to memorize my monologue or song?
Memorization is not required, but it is strongly suggested that you work to memorize as much of the monologue or song as you can. Having your monologue or song memorized will show us that you've come prepared, and it will also allow you to make stronger character choices. For example, instead of being focused on reading what each word says, you will be able to give us facial expressions and movement that show us that you know what the character is really saying and feeling.
Can I leave after my audition is over?
Yep! You are free to go as soon as you're finished auditioning. Please call your ride before you get into the auditorium so they're here when you're done!
I'm not a dancer. Do I still have to attend dance audition for the musical?
Yes! You do! Everyone who wishes to audition must attend the dance auditions. You will be taught a simple combination and will perform it in small groups. DO NOT worry if you are not a dancer--this is a great opportunity to showcase personality and energy!
What do I need to wear for the dance audition?
Please dress comfortably (i.e. gym clothes, yoga pants, leggings, a comfortable t-shirt, etc. NO JEANS!) If you own dance shoes (jazz shoes or character heels), please bring them. If you do not own dance shoes, please wear sneakers. NO FLIP-FLOPS OR UGGS.
