West Platte offers a wide variety of Dual Credit and Advanced Placement (AP) courses for our high school students. Completion of these courses can mean that students graduate from high school with earned college credit and the ability to advance to higher level courses in college and need fewer credits to graduate from college, saving money in the long run. It is important to communicate with the Admissions Offices of prospective colleges to see how each individual course will transfer and affect the student's progress in college. This is an individual decision by college. Credit for AP courses is determined by the student's performance on the exam at the end of the course. Colleges may allow students to advance to the next level of a course or award college credit earned for the course. To see how individual colleges award credit, go to www.collegeboard.org/apcreditpolicy
Students who are eligible for the Missouri A+ Program may attend Missouri Community Colleges tuition-free for two years. Students who plan to attend a 4-year college after graduation may use their A+ money in the summer between high school graduation and the start of college in the fall to take college courses. It is important to communicate with the Admissions Offices of prospective colleges to see how these courses will transfer and affect the student's status in the fall (especially whether the student will still be considered an incoming freshman student or changed to a transfer student). There is a big difference in scholarships for first-time freshman vs. transfer students.
