OVERVIEW: Iowa Medicaid has three main coverage groups: Most Iowa Medicaid members are enrolled in the IA Health Link managed care program. This program gives you health coverage through a Managed Care Organization (MCO) that you get to choose. Some Medicaid members will get health coverage through the Medicaid Fee-for-Service program. CHIP is offered through the Healthy and Well Kids in Iowa program, also known as Hawki.
ELIGIBILITY
Based on income for household members. Household size includes roommates, spouses, kids, etc. even if they are independent. Other options are available for lower-cost insurance if they do not qualify for Medicaid. Check healthcare.gov for more information.
Driver’s License
Social Security Number for all household members
Income Information: Pay stubs, bank statements, monthly income
Employer Information
Mortgage/Rent/lease information
Utility Bill information.
Steps to Completing Application
Either apply online at HHS Portal or email a scan of a paper application. (https://hhs.iowa.gov/sites/default/files/470-5170.pdf)
Send identification and proof of income to HHS email imagingcenter4@dhs.state.is.us
A HHS caseworker will be assigned to the case.
Renewed once per year. Option of switching managed care organizations if needed.
To get new cards, you’ll need to call the managed care organization, and have the client give them consent so that we can talk to them. Then they can request a new card. If they have an account set up they can request a new card via the organization portal. Link
