OVERVIEW: Since 1990, Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity has operated in Black Hawk, Butler, Bremer, and Buchanan counties, building homes for homebuyers and completing critical home repairs in owner-occupied homes. We are dedicated to eliminating substandard housing through construction, rehabilitation, and preserving homes; advocating for fair housing policies; and providing access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.
PROGRAMS
Homeownership Program
Through our homebuyer application process, the dream of homeownership can become a reality for local families in need. Iowa Heartland brings together homeowners, volunteers, donors, and community members to build decent and affordable homes.
Critical Home Repair Program
In addition to new construction, Iowa Heartland provides repair services, weatherization assistance, and accessibility modifications to existing homes based on income and need, as well as rehabs vacant houses to restore their safety and livability.
You must own the home where the repairs are to be made.
You must occupy the home as your primary residence.
You (or a member of your household) must have a need that makes the requested repairs necessary.
Your household income must fall below 80% of the Area Median Income by income verification.
Those receiving Home Repair services must make their
home accessible during repair work. Any able-bodied household members must help during the project (where applicable).
Applicants must demonstrate willingness and ability to contribute a down payment based on a sliding scale.
Applicants must be willing to perform sweat equity on the project.
