Hiring Process
The process between applying and arriving in Korea can sometimes be complicated. Please make sure you understand this process in order to make it as smooth as possible.
Contact your local consulate or embassy
After you receive your confirmation of visa issuance from us, you should contact your local Korean consulate or embassy. Using the confirmation we will send you and the consulate/embassy's application form, you can apply to have the visa physically placed in your passport. (It has been confirmed in Korea and will be issued at the consulate/embassy.)
Before submitting any documents or applications to the embassy, you should contact them and find out what their requirements are. Those requirements will vary from location to location. Once you have submitted your documents and application to them, we are on their timeline. Sometimes, a consulate can issue a visa in a few working days; other times, it can take a couple of weeks.
If the consulate/embassy gives you a specific date (not a range) on which you visa will be ready, you may book your airlines ticket(s) to South Korea. Otherwise it is best to wait till the visa is issued. This will likely be to Incheon International Airport (ICN), the largest airport in Korea. Once you book your ticket, please email us a copy of the itinerary.
Arrival in Republic of Korea
We recommend taking a shuttle bus from Incheon International Airport to Daejeon. The buses are quite comfortable, take rest stops, and have a cargo hold for your luggage. You should arrive at Daejeon Express Bus Terminal (대전복합터미날), which is close to the Woosong University main campus. It is also possible to take a subway train or bus to either Gwangmyeong or Seoul train stations and take a train from there to Daejeon Train Station, again which is quite close to the Woosong University man campus.
After you arrive, there will be many meetings and paperwork requirements to complete your visa issuance and arrival procedures, such as completing an in-country health check, opening a bank account, and registering with the local immigration authority and applying for a Residence Card.
In addition, all incoming faculty members must an apostilled/consular notarized criminal background check from their home country notarized, if it is not already. For E-1 and F visa applicants, this is the criminal background check you will bring with you. Please do not complete this notarization before arriving in Daejeon. We will refer you to a local law office which can render the notarization for a fee.
As always, we'll be in touch with you to help you through this process.
