Hiring Process
The process between applying and arriving in Korea can sometimes be complicated. Please make sure you understand this process in order to make it as smooth as possible.
Second interview: Live or via recorded video
Your second interview will be an informal discussion with 3-4 members of the hiring committee and departmental leadership. It will be much shorter than the first interview, lasting only 7-10 minutes. It will be similar to the first interview, in terms of content and direction, and will also be conducted via Skype.
Additionally, the Hiring Committee will schedule the interview for office hours in Korean Standard Time, usually mid-morning. If you're unable to meet the committee at the scheduled time, though, you can complete the second interview by submitting a recorded video introduction (selfie-style, as an unlisted (i. e. private) YouTube video).
In general, you can discuss the following either in your live committee interview or in your recorded introduction:
A professional introduction;
Your highest degree and how it pertains to English as a Foreign Language teaching;
Your latest teaching appointment, focusing on the classes and students taught, as well as your methodology;
An overview of your teaching philosophy;
Any special considerations you might have - family commitments, research activities, interests, awards, talents, language skills - that might affect your potential employment here at Woosong.
Please keep in mind that the video can be shot selfie-style with your webcam or mobile device, and shouldn't last more than 7-10 minutes. Following each group of second interviews, the committee deliberates each candidate's application, which can take a few days or a few weeks.
Offer of employment
The hiring committee considers many applicants each hiring cycle. Because of that, the deliberation process can last a few weeks. Candidates whom the committee decides to offer a position will receive a job offer letter via email. That letter will provide the following information:
Start date and contract duration;
Your starting salary, housing information, and
A summary of your benefits and other requirements.
You will have one week (or more, if necessary) to consider the offer. If you decide to accept the offer, you should begin procuring all of the documents we'll need either to transfer your existing visa or apply for a new one. (If you hold a Korean F visa, you'll submit the same paperwork as an E1 applicant.)
Document requirement
Please note that, while we can schedule a second interview without receiving your employment verification letters, we cannot issue a job offer without them (and the other screening documents).
