Hiring Process
The process between applying and arriving in Korea can sometimes be complicated. Please make sure you understand this process in order to make it as smooth as possible.
Documents related to your contract and visa
In addition to your signed contract, you will need to submit some additional documents as part of the contract and visa issuance process. When we send you your job offer letter, we will include a self-health check that all applicants must complete, per government regulations. We will also enclose a checklist of documents that you will need to procure and submit to us.
Please note the type of visa we'll be applying for on your behalf, or which you'll be transferring to Woosong, as the documents required are different for each.
New or transfer E-1 visas or F visas
For the majority of incoming faculty, we will apply for an E-1 (Professor) visa for those who need a new visa. Being issued an E-1 visa is dependent upon several factors. Unfortunately, we cannot offer incoming faculty members their preference of visa type. Here are the documents you'll need to procure if you're on an E-1 visa or a Korean F visa.
One apostilled criminal background check from your passport country. For time validity, please do not apply for this document until after you've signed and remitted your job offer letter. We submit them to the local immigration authority and have to respect their requirements.
Either the original diploma for your highest degree or an apostilled photocopy of it. We will verify it and then return it to you approximately 60 days after you begin working at Woosong.
Korean-style passport photos: 35x45 mm, plain white background, with nothing obscuring your face. If the photos aren't to Korean passport specifications, you will have to resubmit them at your cost.
*Documents from Canada, or other countries that are not signatories to the Hague Convention on Apostilles, must be consular notarized by the Korean embassy or consulate in the issuing country.
E-1 or F visa applicants can bring most of their documents with them when they arrive at Woosong. They must only send us their fifteen Korean-style passport photos hard copy by courier by the deadline we will provide.
Applying for your visa
Once we have the documents we need, we will begin the process of applying for your visa. When it is approved, we will email you a confirmation of visa issuance, which we receive from the immigration authorities. Once you have the confirmation, you can use it to have your passport physically placed inside your visa by the Korean consulate or embassy that has jurisdiction over your area.
