Inverse of the World

Scripture

“‘In that day,’ declares the Lord Almighty, ‘I will break the yoke off their necks and will tear off their bonds; no longer will foreigners enslave them. Instead, they will serve the Lord their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.’ ” Jeremiah 30:8-9

Discussion

As I begin to think about what this quote means, I start to think about what inverses are exactly. In mathematics, inverses are functions that are the opposite or reverse of an original function. Relating this to Jesus' descent, this means that he was sent to Earth to be the opposite of regular people. For example, instead of cheating, lying, etc. he was meant to be a good example through his use of compassion, mercy, and kindness. Instead of being sinful, he was brought to Earth to be completely sinless. In John 12:46 it says that, "I have come into this world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness." Not only does this show how sinful the world was (God literally said they were living in darkness) but it also shows how Jesus was told to come to Earth to be the opposite of what the world was--light.

Jesus was also brought to Earth for many different reasons. He was used to bring joy, heal people, die for the sins of the world, to serve, to save the lost, and more. All of these things would not be done by normal people and Jesus was called to be the opposite of others (the inverse) and execute those problems.

A mathematical inverse of a function “undoes” that function. X multiplied by 1/x leaves the product of 1. This is an extremely useful property in mathematics and can also be used to describe Jesus’s role in the world. Due to the fall, the earth became corrupted, filled with sinful people and suffering. From the beginning, though, God had a plan to correct this; he would send Jesus, his only son, the only man who never sinned, to rid humanity of its own sin. Jesus willingly died to undo death and, eventually, restore the earth to the way it was meant to be, all people, blameless, living in perfect harmony with God. For this reason, Jesus is a sort of inverse to sin, not only being free from it but also being capable of undoing it for us all. Through Christ, we have been freed.

Overview

Overall, we can see how Jesus is the "inverse of the world" through His time on Earth. The actions and things Jesus did during His time on Earth are important because it shows us God's love and also how He used his Son to show Himself to us humans. The most important thing to pull from this observation is how God shows His personality to us through Jesus. In Hebrews 1:1-3 it says,"in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power When He had made purification of sins..." God is said to be of divine nature, glorious, and radiant which is the inverse of what the world is. So, because of Jesus, knowing he is the inverse of the world, we are able to have hope that there is a greater good in life which is God.
