Some Interesting Facts about Middle School
School begins at 8:05 am and ends at 2:38 pm.
Sixth grade arrival takes place at the back of the building, near the gym.
You will receive your locker and a combination lock on the first day of school. Your locker will be located in the hallway right outside of your first period class.
Sixth grade students are broken up into teams of three teachers; these teachers provide instruction in your main subject areas (English, Math, Science and Social Studies).
There are 9 periods in a day, all 40 minutes long, with an exception to period 1. There is extra time allotted for morning announcements and attendance in period 1. This is when you will learn about upcoming events, clubs, sports try-outs, etc.
There are 3 minutes in between each period for you to get from class to class.
There are two lunch periods designated only for sixth grade students, periods 4 & 6.
There are various elective/exploratory classes for sixth grade students. Such classes can include, #writersworkshop, Investigating History, Coding, performance music, Media Production, Language Exploratories, etc.
We operate on a Blue/Gold day schedule; certain electives will take place on a rotating basis. The first day of school is always a BLUE DAY.
You cannot try out for sports teams in 6th grade. You can, however, still be involved as a team manager and we encourage it. This serves as an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with the coach and the team!
We provide support services, just as some of you may receive in elementary school (AIS Reading/Math, Resource Room, Counseling, etc). If you receive any of these supports they will be built into your schedule.
You will be required to get changed Physical Education class. You will have a second locker and combination lock, located in the locker room, to hold your items.
You may use an agenda. This is a vital tool; you should use this to record your daily homework assignments and to keep you organized.
You will have a chromebook; it is your responsibility to bring it to school, each day, charged.
Our grading system is a little different. The school year is divided into four quarters, rather than three trimesters. We also have two semesters in an academic year. Some elective classes will change each quarter; some will change per semester.
We offer extra help at the middle school and we encourage you to attend, as needed. Each teacher offers it individually and the days and times are posted outside of the teacher's classroom.
Last, but not least, we are here for you! As your school counselors, we are here to ensure a smooth transition from elementary school to middle school. We are here to help you grow academically, socially and emotionally!
