Direct Service Highlights (Guidance & Curriculum)
All students were taught weekly lessons from our counseling curriculum (Seconds Step. Leader in Me, and Ripple Effects). The lessons were used for individual and group counseling as well. These lessons helped students become self-aware about their emotions, emotional environment and the power they have to choose right from wrong. They are also taught proper vocabulary to express themselves. The students are taught self-regulation and communication skills that can be used when necessary.
Based on our initial Panorama Survey held in Winter 2022, 88% of our students felt they had Supportive Relationships on campus, by Fall 2022 our campus jumped 3% points to 91% of Memorial students feeling they had Supportive Relationships on campus. The biggest jump our campus had was in the area of classroom effort. In Winter 2022 students were at 69.4%, by Fall 2022, students had jumped 13% to 82%. Classroom effort is based on the amount of effort students take responsibility of their own learning. Teachers have reported that student effort has increased.

Collaboration with Community Partners
Our school counselors, along with the campus administrators and parent specialist, work closely with several organizations to provide resources such as school supplies and backpacks to students in need. Counselors also worked closely with local businesses who assist with donating Thanksgiving meals and gifts during the holidays. Counselors have established strong relationships with local first responders, community business, city officials and local higher learning representatives which have helped with donations and a variety of school presentations.
The Weslaco Fire Department has presented to all students during "Fire Prevention Week" and "Red Ribbon Week" along with other community presenters. Our counselors collaborate with the Weslaco Police Department as well, who provide presentations during Red Ribbon Week, career day, and assist with the children in need Christmas Program. Our counselors also spearheaded and participate in the honoring of U.S. Veterans during Veterans Day in an event which honors our student's family members who served and are seving our country.

Parents partnership with the school is of high importance to our campus. Parent feedback or concerns are welcome and listened to attentively by the principal, counselor, and other professional staff members.
Counselors visit with all classrooms on campus and introduce themselves to every student and ask for their feedback and/or ideas. They also listen to any needs or concerns students may have. Quick check visits with students take place during the week by counselors to ensure students are doing well. Our parental specialist works closely with counselors and reaches out to parents to request feedback on the emotional needs of our students.
