Post Secondary Education and Career Readiness
Data from Major Clarity has been analyzed to help guide students toward the most suitable Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways within our district. Major Clarity provides detailed insights into students' interests, skills, and aptitudes through assessments and surveys, which are used to align students with pathways that match their strengths and career goals. The graph above highlights the top 5 academic pathways identified through this process.
Student responses from career interest surveys and aptitude tests are cross-referenced with district CTE options to ensure a good fit, promoting both engagement and success. This data-driven approach supports district counseling goals by helping students make informed career decisions, fostering self-awareness, and laying the foundation for post-secondary success or workforce entry.
Example: Major Clarity Lesson & Activity
At Mary Hoge Middle School, the CCMR Advisor and Counselors used tools like the Major Clarity assessment and Texas Reality Check to help 8th-grade students explore post-secondary programs and career paths aligned with their strengths and interests. Based on assessment data, a guidance lesson was created to broaden students' awareness of diverse career opportunities.
Students toured the Joe Calvillo CTE Complex and attended a CCMR Expo featuring guest speakers from various industries, providing firsthand insight into future career possibilities. Counselors also focused on career readiness, highlighting the skills and education needed for different fields. This initiative empowered students to make informed decisions about their academic and career goals.
Joe Calvillo CTE Complex Tours
Joe Calvillo CTE Complex tours give 8th-grade students valuable hands-on experience as they explore different career pathways. By visiting facilities and interacting with equipment, tools, and professionals in various fields, students gain practical insight into what each program entails. This direct experience helps them better understand the skills required in specific careers, allowing them to make more informed decisions about their high school program of study. CTE tours provide an engaging way for students to connect their interests with real-world applications, making it easier to envision future opportunities and choose paths that align with their strengths and goals.
CCMR EXPO
College, Career and Military Readiness
The CCMR Expo offers 8th-grade students an excellent opportunity to connect with community members and explore a variety of career options. By interacting with professionals from different fields, students gain insight into various occupations and learn about the skills and education needed for each. This exposure helps students make informed choices about their future educational paths, allowing them to align their interests with potential career options. The expo also fosters community engagement, giving students a firsthand look at local career opportunities and inspiring them to consider paths they might not have previously explored.
Evaluation of Learning Outcome
The attached Google form was used as an exit ticket to review students' Career and Technical Education (CTE) selections, ensuring each student is placed in the most appropriate courses for high school. This feedback provided high school counselors with valuable insights into students' interests and career goals.
This process helps match students with suitable CTE courses and identifies any additional support needed during their transition to high school. The collected information promotes discussions about students’ choices, encouraging them to reflect on their strengths and future goals. By using this feedback, students are more actively involved in their educational planning, positioning them for success by enrolling in courses that align with their interests and aspirations, paving the way for a rewarding high school experience and future opportunities.
Working with Stakeholders
Stakeholders are essential to our planning process, providing crucial support for both guidance curriculum and system operations. Utilizing data, they collaborate closely with our program to plan, implement, and ensure students receive the necessary skills and resources for success. Our counseling program aligns with the WISD counseling curriculum goals to fully support all school initiatives and foster a positive learning environment.
Stakeholders, including parents, are regularly updated on activities, events, and initiatives that address each student’s unique needs and aspirations. We have also conducted parent presentations to inform them about College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR), ensuring they are well equipped to support their children’s future success.
We communicate updates and program details through newsletters, social media, Google Classroom, and the School Messenger Phone Call System, keeping everyone informed and engaged. Our Mary Hoge community is truly the best, always stepping up to support our students and their academic journeys.
