NEW February 2025 - The Great Lakes Commission's Great Lakes AIS Landing Blitz Winter Watch Feb. 2025. Materials shared can be found in box in the folder AIS Landing Blitz - 2025 Winter Edition. You can modify materials as needed. They were set up to use across the Great Lakes Region so some messaging may not be an exact fit to our own. You can use these materials to plan for 2026 and beyond, if you like.
Want to get your own towels for Drain Campaign or the Landing Blitz? Since the Extension and WDNR AIS Programs have stopped being able to provide boat towels, we occasionally get inquires from groups who want to get their own printed. Sometimes they're using Surface Water Grant Funds, but they may be using other funds, such as the grants from the Great Lakes Commission for the the GLLB.
Here is what was included in the bid requests in the past regarding size and materials for the Landing Blitz towels: 85% polyester, 15% polyamide, two colors (red and black) on white fabric, silk-screened on one side, 15” x 18” with 11” x 15” imprint area, with brass grommet and hook in upper left corner.
The Drain Campaign towel request would be the same but we asked for dark blue with white print. See the image below.

The folks above are intrepid volunteers from the Turtle Lakes Chain, out to protect our waters come heck or pandemic! Like so most of our AIS partner staff and volunteers, they also participate in the two summer campaigns: The Drain Campaign and Landing Blitz.
The Drain Campaign is focused on anglers and reminding them to drain their livewells and buckets before leaving the launch with their catch. This campaign is over 10 years old and over the years ice packs or towels with the Drain Your Catch logo were used. Going into 2024 there is no longer funding for these prompts. We are determining how the campaign may change.
Since 2010, the Landing Blitz has always includes the 4th of July, easily the busiest boating weekend of the year. Beginning in 2023, Wisconsin went all in for the Great Lakes Regional Landing Blitz which basically took our model and extended it to the entire Great Lakes Region covering every state and province on the Great Lakes. Each year, the Great Lakes Commission has offered grants to help you expand your Landing Blitz efforts. The grant announcements are shared through the WI AIS Partnership listserv. The 2025 Request for Proposals is available to download from the box.
The Great Lakes Commission also created some helpful Fact Sheets for planning and expanding your efforts. These were designed with the entire Great Lakes Region in mind, so as you go through them, some items may not exactly suit your needs, but they are still helpful references. Click on these 2025 Landing Blitz Resources to see and download them. In spring, there may be hard copies available.
Great Lakes Landing Blitz Trailer Sticker which replaced the towels used previously. These will be available for 2023 and 2024. Here is the sticker pdf file with bleeds (needed by printers) is available if you'd like to get your own printed.

The Drain Campaign towel provided in 2022 and 2023. Previously, ice packs with the same logo were provided to remind anglers to drain their catch.
