Entering Research Recognition
Level 1: Trained Facilitator of Entering Research
To become an Entering Research Trained Facilitator, you must fulfill the following criteria:
Participate in an NRMN or CIMER facilitator workshop to gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to effectively facilitate research mentee training based on the Entering Research curricula series
If you are interested in attending a facilitator workshop, please visit the Facilitating Entering Research website to view upcoming dates or complete this interest form to be added to our listserv to learn about upcoming events.
After participating in a facilitator workshop, you will receive a letter recognizing you as an Entering Research Trained Facilitator.
Level 2: Certified Facilitator of Entering Research

To become a Certified Facilitator of Entering Research, you must fulfill the following criteria:
Earn recognition as an Entering Research Trained Facilitator.
Join the MyNRMN online community of practice, Facilitators of Entering Research (Mentee Training), to learn more about the curricula, seek implementation advice, and share best practices.
Inform us of your upcoming mentee training implementations by completing the Entering Research Implementation Tracking & Evaluation Request Form.
Facilitate mentee training based on the Entering Research curriculum, implementing at least one activity from each area of trainee development across all implementations submitted as part of your application. Facilitators can apply using implementations that fulfill one of the following options:
Option 1: A minimum of 8 hours of facilitation in two or more separate workshops or implementations .
Option 2: Implement activities from the Entering Research curriculum in one semester-long course or summer research program.
Use the standardized evaluation surveys available from the Entering Research team to provide evidence of facilitator effectiveness, participant satisfaction and learning*. If you are implementing Entering Research activities as part of a semester-long course or program that is linked to a research experience (see Option 2 above), you must also include the Entering Research Learning Assessment (ERLA) as part of your evaluation survey. Use of the CIMER Assessment Platform is provided free of charge to all trained facilitators for the first year.
*Facilitators who implemented Entering Research 2 activities as part of our pilot test from 2017-2018 and completed surveys providing feedback are eligible to use data from those surveys as part of their application.
To apply to become a Certified Facilitator of Entering Research
Download and complete the implementation spreadsheet, listing all implementations that you would like considered as part of your application. For each implementation, applicants will be asked to list the individual activities implemented by primary area of trainee development.
Compile into a single PDF the syllabi or course/program/workshop schedules for each implementation that you are submitting as part of your application.
Prepare a brief biography (less than 250 words) describing your professional background and interest in being a Certified Facilitator of Entering Research.
Submit the application form and upload the materials requested in Steps 1-3.
Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Please contact the Entering Research Team (enteringresearch@education.wisc.edu) with any questions or concerns.
Expectations for Certified Facilitators of Entering Research
Facilitate at least one Entering Research-based mentee training annually.
Complete the Evaluation Request and Implementation Tracking form to inform us of any implementations. (Note: evaluation surveys are available to certified facilitators for free, but you are not required to use our evaluation surveys as part of your implementation).
Intellectual Property Agreement
Trained and Certified Facilitators are not permitted to charge or collect honoraria/facilitator fees for training events based on the Entering Mentoring or Entering Research curricula. For more information, review our intellectual property agreement (updated May 2019).
Leveraging Your Recognition and Experience
Once you become a Trained or Certified Facilitator, you may wish to leverage your recognition and experience by including your title in your email signature, CV/resume, biographical sketch, or grant applications.
We recommend using any of the following titles:
NRMN Trained or Certified Facilitator (if you attended an NRMN facilitator training)
CIMER Trained or Certified Facilitator (if you attended a CIMER facilitator training)
Entering Research Trained or Certified Facilitator
We recommend using the following language to describe your title:
