Entering Mentoring Recognition
Level 1: Trained Facilitator
To become an Entering Mentoring Trained Facilitator, you must fulfill the following criteria:
Participate in our facilitator workshop to gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to effectively facilitate research mentor training based on the Entering Mentoring curricula series
If you are interested in attending a facilitator workshop, please complete this interest form to be added to our listserv to learn about upcoming events.
After participating in a facilitator workshop, you will receive a letter recognizing you as an Entering Mentoring Trained Facilitator.
As an Entering Mentoring Trained Facilitator, you are strongly encouraged to engage in the following:
Join the MyNRMN online community of practice, Facilitators of Entering Mentoring (Mentor Training), to learn more about the curricula, seek implementation advice, and share best practices
Implement mentor training; there is no minimum number of implementations required
Leverage resources on the CIMER website: Facilitating Entering Mentoring and Facilitator Community
Level 2: Certified Facilitator
To become an Entering Mentoring Certified Facilitator, you must fulfill the following criteria:
Earn recognition as an Entering Mentoring Trained Facilitator
Join the MyNRMN online community of practice, Facilitators of Entering Mentoring (Mentor Training), to learn more about the curricula, seek implementation advice, and share best practices
Participate in MyMentor, the NRMN guided virtual mentorship program (optional)
Facilitate mentor training based on the Entering Mentoring curricula series
A minimum of 8 hours of facilitation across 2 or more workshops is required, including at least one session on "Reflecting on Diversity and Establishing a Practic of Inclusion" (formerly titled “Addressing Equity and Inclusion”)
Evaluation data from at least 20 participants is required indicating your effectiveness as a facilitator and participant workshop satisfaction; you may use your own evaluation assessments or ones created by CIMER (survey PDF or Qualtrics QSF file)

To apply:
We strongly recommend preparing all materials in Steps 1-3 before starting the application survey, since the application cannot easily be saved for completion at a later time. Applications are reviewed twice a year.
Download this spreadsheet and list your facilitation experience. If you have facilitated many mentor training workshops, you may choose to include only those that best showcase your experience and/or meet the requirements for Certified Facilitator recognition.
Compile evidence of your effectiveness as a facilitator into a single PDF file. This should minimally include evaluation data from training participants. You may also wish to include letters of recommendation, teaching awards, etc.
Write a brief biography (less than 250 words) describing your professional background and interest in being an Entering Mentoring Certified Facilitator.
Submit the application survey.

Once your application is approved, you are expected to:
Facilitate at least one mentor training workshop annually; training can address any number of competencies or themes but must include content on the topic of equity and inclusion
Share basic information about NRMN at your trainings and encourage participants to join NRMN
Be active on MyNRMN (social networking platform) and consider participating in MyMentor (guided virtual mentorship program)
Reach out to us with questions, resources, and highlights from your work on mentoring
Intellectual Property Agreement
Trained and Certified Facilitators are not permitted to charge or collect honoraria/facilitator fees for training events based on the Entering Mentoring or Entering Research curricula. For more information, review our intellectual property agreement (updated May 2019).
Leveraging Your Recognition and Experience
Once you become a Trained or Certified Facilitator, you may wish to leverage your recognition and experience by including your title in your email signature, CV/resume, biographical sketch, or grant applications.
We recommend using any of the following titles:
NRMN Trained or Certified Facilitator (if you attended an NRMN facilitator training)
CIMER Trained or Certified Facilitator (if you attended a CIMER facilitator training)
Entering Mentoring Trained Facilitator or Entering Mentoring Certified Facilitator
We recommend using the following language to describe your title:
If you attended an NRMN facilitator training:
Completed facilitator training workshop sponsored by the NIH-funded National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN) to learn how to facilitate and implement evidence-based mentor training based on the Entering Mentoring series
If you attended a CIMER facilitator training:
Completed facilitator training workshop sponsored by the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER) to learn how to facilitate and implement evidence-based mentor training based on the Entering Mentoring series
