Hello!
I am Mrs. Grant, the School Counselor at Winthrop Grade School. What I love most about my job is that I get to combine all of my favorite things- kids, teaching, counseling, meeting new challenges, and being creative! I started out my career as a teacher.
During my 15 years of teaching I taught grades Kindergarten, 4th, 5th, and 6th. People often ask me, 'what was your favorite grade to teach?'. My answer is always the same, whatever grade I was currently teaching was truly always my favorite. Each grade level has such different and amazing learning developmental aspects to offer. That is exactly how I feel now in my current role as school counselor. I absolutely love being able to enhance the learning and development of students PreK-5th grade.
I completed a Master's program in Mental Health and Counseling in 2015. Part of that professional journey allowed me to work as an intern counselor at Community Health and Counseling. During this time I did counseling for adults, teens, at-risk youth, adult Dialectic Behavior Therapy groups and students in schools. It was a tremendous learning opportunity that I gained so much perspective from!
When I am not at school I am busy at home as a wife, and mom of three boys- ages 13, 10, and 5. We love pets at my house too! We currently have two dogs, two cats, two goats, two pigs, two ducks, and lots of baby chicks that will be laying hens. See pictures below!
