High School Counseling & College Planning
The WPS High School/College Counseling program is intricately aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework, offering a comprehensive approach to student development and college preparation. Each student is paired with one of our four dedicated high school counselors, ensuring personalized guidance throughout their high school journey. Our program includes CEM testing, which evaluates academic potential and informs educational planning. Students have opportunities for summer program planning and international trips, which provide experiential learning and enhance their global perspective. Additionally, we host over 150 college representatives on campus, giving students direct access to admissions officers and valuable insights into various institutions.
The program also integrates social and emotional well-being support, helping students manage stress and develop a balanced approach to their academic and personal lives. This focus on well-being is essential during these formative years, ensuring that students receive the guidance they need to thrive academically.
By combining personalized guidance with experiential learning and a focus on social and emotional well-being, the program equips students with the skills and confidence they need to succeed in their future endeavors.
9th Grade
Freshman year is a time of transition, where students build on foundational knowledge and begin to think and write more critically and independently. Our 9th grade college counseling program is tailored specifically for MYP (Middle Years Programme) students, providing a strong foundation for their future academic and career success. We focus on helping students transition smoothly into high school while introducing them to key aspects of the IB curriculum and college preparation.

Extracurricular engagement: We assist students in identifying and pursuing activities that complement their MYP studies, such as joining clubs, participating in sports, and engaging in community service, which help develop their IB learner profile attributes.
Early college awareness: Through tailored lessons, students begin to explore potential careers and college options, using tools like MaiaLearning to support their research.
Skill development: We focus on cultivating essential skills such as time management, critical thinking, and effective communication, which are crucial for success in both MYP and future IB studies.
Self-assessment and reflection: Students utilize career and personality profiles to better understand their strengths and potential career paths, fostering self-awareness.
Summer program exploration: Guidance is provided for students interested in attending pre-college academic programs or interest-based summer activities hosted on college campuses.
Parent engagement: We offer informational sessions for parents to understand the MYP, its connection to the Diploma Programme, and how it relates to college preparation.
