Your Learning

Let's get started!

Well I think everyone can agree that this has not been the way you deserved to bring your time in Year 11 to an end, but now it's time to dust off your pens and pencils, exercise your brain and get ready for the next chapter of your lives! Level 3 study will open so many doors for you, whether you choose to go onto University, begin an apprenticeship or just enter into the world of work straight away. Your time in Post 16 will be your opportunity to invest in your future.

With this in mind, your induction is designed to help make the jump from level 2 to level 3 studies as smooth as possible. One thing to know is that level 3 is not like level 2: it is more intense, hard work, and lots of expectations on you to study independently. The next two years of your life will shape your future!

What you have to do...

As part of the preparation for your return in September, your teachers have put together induction lesson materials for you to work through. The induction session is designed to be your first taste of your studies next year. It is designed to provide you with an opportunity to ensure that you find your chosen subjects engaging and to prepare for the first weeks of study. The steps below detail out what you need to do over the upcoming weeks as part of your induction.

  1. Induction Lesson

Each subject has provided a series of lesson materials (presentations, activities, etc.) for you to work through. On average, this should not take you more than few hours per subject to work through. Each subject page has a teacher named who you can contact over the summer if you are struggling with any aspect of the work given.

If you have chosen to undertake the International Baccalaureate Careers-related Programme (IBCP pathway), then you will also need to complete the induction materials provided. These can be accessed here. Students on the IBCP pathway will be studying two IB Diploma subjects and a vocational (applied or BTEC) subject. Any questions regarding the IBCP should be directed to kathleen.sanders@wilmingtonacademy.org.uk.

Any further queries can be directed to either: lauren.evans@wilmingtonacademy.org.uk or stacey.austin-williams@wilmingtonacademy.org.uk.

2. Summer Projects

Each subject has also set a summer project. You will need to complete the summer projects for the subjects you have chosen and this work will need to be submitted to your subject teachers during your first lesson in September.

All summer projects, together with induction sessions can be accessed through the induction tab or here.

Each subject page has a teacher named who you can submit the work to or ask any questions.

3. Beyond the Qualifications

Alongside your subject tasks, we have also thought about the skills and attributes you will need to succeed in Post 16. School might be the last thing on your mind right now, but with a little work carried out often you can be in the best position in September!

With this in mind, we have included a 'Beyond the Qualifications' tab. This tab includes various activities which are designed to get you motivated and prepared for the next chapter of your life and beyond. We have also included help and guidance to get you to think about your options after Post 16!

Any questions about the enrichment opportunities you will benefit from can be directed to: stacey.austin-williams@wilmingtonacademy.org.uk.

4. The Paperwork

In order to enrol at Wilmington Academy Post 16, students must return a completed Post 16 Admission Form. Completed forms can either be returned to either electronically to lesley.elson@wilmingtonacademy.org.uk or via the post to: Wilmington Academy Post 16 Admissions, Common Lane, Wilmington, Dartford, Kent, DA2 7DR. All forms must be returned with a completed Home Academy Agreement signed by both parents/carers and students and a passport sized photograph.

Your options

If you are unsure of the subjects you have chosen, a record of your choices can be found on your conditional offer letter.

If you have misplaced your conditional offer letter, please email Ms Elson at lesley.elson@wilmingtonacademy.org.uk, who will be happy to let you know what your subject choices were.

If for any reason, you would like to change your subject choices, please email Miss Evans at lauren.evans@wilmingtonacademy.org.uk.
