Post 16 List of Important Dates

As part of our beyond the qualifications ethos and enrichment programme, we will run compulsory trips/activities on the dates listed below and attendance is required by all students. Please note other dates may be added through the year to support subject studies and cultural opportunities.

Times of the Day

Some students may not be required to attend the academy on Wednesdays and students should refer to their timetable in order to see when they are expected in.
On days where students are expected in, students will be required to study when they do not have a timetabled lesson. All students will have access to a dedicated Post 16 Study area for this purpose.

Business Dress

A key goal of Post 16 is to prepare students for their next steps and with this in mind, we aim to maintain a business environment. This requires students to maintain a business standard of dress:

For Ladies: Tailored skirt/dress (length to be no shorter than just above the knee, no leather skirts, no t-shirt material, no shorts) or trousers, smart top or blouse (no vest tops), smart dark shoes (no sandals/trainers/canvas shoes/ UGG style boots/ Dr Martins etc), no hats/caps.

For Gentlemen: Tailored trousers and jacket, shirt, tie, smart dark shoes (no sandals/trainers/canvas shoes/ UGG style boots/Dr Martins. Socks are required), no hats/caps.

Parent Pay & Biometric Information

The Academy uses a biometric system for purchases from the restaurant. When your child goes to the till point, they will place their finger onto a pad which will call up their account and the purchase will be charged against this account. This system eliminates the risk of your child losing their cash both in and outside of the Academy, and also ensures that money you provide for school meals is only be spent on food in the Academy.

To initially set up an account for the computer system a scan of your child’s fingerprint is taken by the admin team which is then turned into a digital signature. Once the computer has turned the fingerprint into a mathematical algorithm, the image of the fingerprint is then discarded and only the numbers remain. Your child’s fingerprint is not stored on the computer. The information that is stored cannot be used to recreate an image of the fingerprint. When your child leaves the Academy the account together with the digital signature is deleted.

Travelling to the Academy

When you join Post 16 you may need to purchase a Kent 16+ Travel Saver card. Application forms are available from: https://www.kent.gov.uk/education-and-children/schools/school-transport/16-travel-saver.

Kent 16+ Travel Saver cards are then sent to the academy and we will distribute on arrival.

Absence Procedures

Statistics show a direct link between attendance and achievement: the higher the attendance, the better students do in their studies! Therefore, students are expected to maintain a 95%+ attendance. On the rare occasion that your son/daughter is unable to attend the academy, please contact the academy either by telephone or by email:

School Telephone Number: 01322 272111

College Email: lesley.elson@wilmingtonacademy.org.uk

For planned absences for interviews, university experience days, etc. the academy should be given at least 5 days notice. This will allow subject staff to plan accordingly to ensure that your son/daughter is not disadvantaged by their absence. All medical and dental appointments, as well as driving lessons and tests should be made outside of academy time.

Contacting the Academy

In the event that you need to contact the academy regarding your son/daughter, you can either do this by telephone or by email:
