Music FAQ
FAQ
Q: Do I need to have sung in choir before to join? What if I've never been in choir? Do I need to be a good singer?
A: You don't need any previous experience. We love to have both new and experienced singers in choir! This is a choir class, so we will help all students improve on their singing. The nice thing about singing in a choir is that there are many singers working collaboratively to make music together.
Q: I have band/orchestra, can I still join?
A: Yes! Choir never conflicts with band or orchestra so you can do both!
Q: Do I ever have to sing a solo or by myself?
A: Nope! All solos are optional and auditioned for.
Q: Do I need to wear a mask while singing?
A: You can if you would like to, however there is no requirement to wear a mask or PPE.
Q: Are the performances required?
A: Yes, most performances are required! However, if you have other commitments or conflicts, please speak to your teacher to see if you can compromise to make both commitments.
Q: What kind of music do you sing?
A: All kinds of music! We will explore music from a variety of eras, genres, and styles. In 5th and 6th grade we will be focusing on music In unison, two-parts, and sometimes three-parts.
Q: Do you have to know how to read music/singing techniques in order to sing in choir?
A: No matter if you are familiar with reading music or not, anyone can join choir! Throughout the course we will work to improve our music reading abilities.
Q: Is choir fun?
A: I think so! If you like to sing, and you like singing with others, then it will be a lot of fun. Want another opinion? Ask someone in choir!
Q: Is there homework or will I have to practice after school?
A: While I always encourage singing and practicing at home, we never specifically have homework or requirements on it.
