Social Studies is the study of the world around us and the societies we live in, encompassing both the past and the present. This year, fourth graders will explore the concept of "Innovations" and examine how different innovations have influenced society. As they investigate these innovations and their effects over time, students will analyze them through five key lenses:
civic thinking
economic thinking
geographic thinking
historical thinking
social/cultural thinking
This unit will be integrated with our English Language Arts curriculum, allowing students to build knowledge through reading, writing, and discussion. They will investigate meaningful questions, conduct research independently and collaboratively, and use a variety of primary and secondary sources to support their understanding.
Throughout the school year, students will learn essential map and geography skills. They will explore maps, globes, and discover insights into the world and its diverse cultures through geography studies. These skills will be taught directly as well as embedded organically into our learning whenever possible.
