This year all District 39 elementary schools will be implementing a math program, Bridges in Mathematics. Last year, many students were introduced to the Number Corner component of the Bridges program.
Unit 1: Multiplicative Thinking
Unit 2: Multi-Digit Multiplication & Early Division
Unit 3: Fractions & Decimals
Unit 4: Addition, Subtraction & Measurement
Unit 5: Geometry & Measurement
Unit 6: Multiplication & Division, Data & Fractions
Unit 7: Reviewing & Extending Fractions, Decimals & Multi-Digit Multiplication
Unit 8: Playground Design
Number Corner (daily, year-long number routines)
Fourth graders will focus intensively on the three critical areas specified by the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics in Grade Four:
Developing understanding and fluency with multi-digit multiplication, and developing understanding of dividing to find quotients involving multi-digit dividends
Developing an understanding of fraction equivalence, addition and subtraction of fractions with like denominators, and multiplication of fractions by whole numbers
Understanding that geometric figures can be analyzed and classified based on their properties, such as having parallel sides, perpendicular sides, particular angle measures, and symmetry
Mathematics is not about numbers, equations, computations, or algorithms: it is about understanding.
