PERTEMUAN KE 1 ( FIRST MEETING )
Do You Know?
A procedure text is a text that gives instructions for doing a particular activity. It can also serve to explain how something works. It aims to give instruction or to explain how something can be done. It uses imperative and consists of goal or purpose, may or may nor contain materials, and steps.
Questions to Think About
1. What kind of food do you consume regularly? Why did you choose it?
2. How do you choose the food you are consuming?
3. How does the food you consume impact your health?
Let’s Read
Simple Tips for Healthy Eating
All of us know about the benefits of eating healthier. Proper nutrition helps us prevent cancer, heart disease, and other serious ailments. It allows us to lose weight and keep the pounds off. Eating healthier also helps to enhance our mood substantially and increases our chances of living longer and enjoying well- being while we are alive. I wanted to simplify the rules for eating healthier and make it simple for those who are interested in improving the way they eat. So what are these tips?
1. Eat Real Food, Not Processed Food
It is best to eat foods in their natural state. Forget foods that are processed in a factory. Some examples of processed foods are convenience snack (potato chips, baked crisps, etc.), white bread (bread is not supposed to be white in color), cereals, canned vegetables, canned meats, canned fruit, granola bars, candy bars, white sugar, bleached flour, beef jerky, soda, sports drinks, margarine (it is hydrogenated in a factory), packaged cookies, frozen dinners, processed meats like hot dogs, canned soups, fruit juices, ketchup, etc. Processed foods have been greatly modified and contain a lot of ingredients that do not exist in the food naturally.
2. Eat a Variety of Different Foods
Each type of food ingredient that exists in nature has its nutritional makeup. When we eat different types of foods, we are more likely to get all the nutrients we need in order to be healthy.
3. Cook More Than Eating Out
One of the best ways to eat healthier is to cook your own food. Besides saving a lot of money, you will also be able to control what goes into your food. You will not be using chemicals and other unhealthy additives.
4. Stop Eating Before You are Full
Instead of eating until you are completely full, stop eating before you feel completely satiated. It is OK (and healthy) to stop eating while you still have some room in your stomach. And do not forget, it takes a while for your stomach to send the message to your brain that you are full and have had enough to eat.
5. Eat at The Dining Table, Not in Your Car or at Your Desk
Always try to eat at a proper dining table. Never eat in your car or at your desk. When you make a point to sit down at a table and focus on your meal, you will be less likely to eat unconsciously. And food that is served to you through a window is almost never healthy. Following this rule also reduces the chances of eating when you are bored.
6. Drink Water and Forget Everything Else
Water is the healthiest drink on the planet, period. Sodas, energy, and flavored drinks are the most unhealthy and they should be avoided at all costs. If you want to have a flavoreddrink, make lemonade using fresh lemons, or drink tea, or water flavored with fresh fruit and vegetables. So there you have it: you can eat much healthier simply by following the 6 tips listed above.

PERTEMUAN KE 2 ( SECOND MEETING )
Read the dialogue.
Niken : Hi, Sidar. How are you?
Samsidar : Not really good actually. My stomach hurts.
Niken : How did your stomach hurt? Was it because of something you ate?
Samsidar : don’t know. Probably yes.
Niken : What did you have?
Samsidar : That cireng with hot sambal.
Niken : Oh, no wonder.
Samsidar : My stomach hurts. What should I do?
Niken : First, take medicine for your stomachache. Then after it gets better you need to mind what you eat. Always eat the right foods so you can stay healthy.
Samsidar : Right foods? What do you know about the right foods, Niken?
Niken : I know a lot about the right food. I read books on healthy foods.
Samsidar : Okay, what are the best foods to eat, then?
Niken : You should eat more fresh fruits and vegetables.
Samsidar : Okay.
Niken : Next, avoid highly fatty and greasy foods. Avoid too much sugar and caffeine too.
Samsidar : Right.
Niken : One last thing, don’t eat too much spicy food like that crying and hot chilly you ate.
Samsidar : Oh .... Now my stomach hurts again. I need to go now.
Niken : Okay, see you then.
PERTEMUAN KE 3 ( THIRD MEETING )
Procedure Text is a piece of text that describes how to make or do something through a sequence of actions or steps.
Social Function: To help the reader achieve a goal (making a healthy meal) by following a correct and safe sequence.
Why Healthy Food? In this context, the text doesn't just focus on "how to cook," but also emphasizes nutrition, cleanliness, and fresh ingredients.
Every procedure text follows a standard "body" or structure:
Structure Part Description Example (Healthy Theme)
Goal / Aim The title or what you want to achieve. How to Make a Protein-Packed Quinoa Bowl
Materials / Ingredients A list of items, tools, and quantities needed. 1 cup of Quinoa, 2 cups of water, spinach, etc.
Steps / Methods A series of chronological instructions. 1. Rinse the quinoa... 2. Boil the water...
This is the most important part to master for exams or writing.
Procedure texts always use the present tense because the instructions are "timeless" truths.
You must start your steps with a verb. You are telling the reader what to do.
Correct: "Slice the avocado."
Incorrect: "You should slice the avocado" or "Slicing the avocado."
These indicate the order of events to ensure the reader doesn't get confused.
Sequence: First, Second, Then, Next, After that, Finally.
Adverbs provide "how-to" details.
Adverbs of Manner: Carefully, slowly, thoroughly, evenly.
Adverbs of Time: For 5 minutes, until golden brown.
This is a perfect example of a healthy food procedure text.
Goal: To prepare a high-fiber, no-cook breakfast for a busy morning.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup rolled oats (not instant)
1/2 cup unsweetened Greek yogurt
2/3 cup almond milk
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
A handful of fresh blueberries and raspberries
Steps:
First, combine the rolled oats, chia seeds, and vanilla extract in a glass jar or airtight container.
Next, pour in the almond milk and add the Greek yogurt.
Then, stir the mixture thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined.
After that, fold in the fresh berries gently so they don't crush.
Subsequently, seal the jar tightly and place it in the refrigerator.
Finally, let it soak overnight (or for at least 6 hours) and serve cold the next morning.
When writing about healthy food, try to use these specific terms:
Nutrient-dense: Foods high in nutrients but low in calories.
Whisk: To stir quickly (usually for eggs or dressing).
Sauté: To fry quickly in a little bit of hot oil.
Steam: To cook using the vapor of boiling water (very healthy!).
Organic: Produced without chemicals.
Whole-grain: Containing the entire grain kernel.
