We are learning how create a line quilt using colorful markers and paper. Cultural connections are made by looking at Navajo woven rugs made by Native Americans.

1st grade artists are exploring PATTERN, an element of art, and how to make TINTS and SHADES.
We are learning how create pattern pumpkin inspired by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. We are also learning how to make our artwork look lighter or darker by mixing white or black to our paint.

We will learn how to make a slab and a coil to create a leaf bowl.

1st grade artists are learning about landscapes!
We will learn how to create a landscape that has something close to us in the foreground, and far away in the foreground. We will also learn how to draw trees.
I can create a winter landscape with a tree and a special object I see on a hike in the foreground, and background.

Horizon line- Imaginary line that separates the land and the sky
Foreground- what is in front.
Middle ground- in the middle!
Background- What is farthest away.
1st grade artists are creating butterflies for the art show!
We read the book "Little Butterfly" by Laura Logan and created a butterfly for our annual butterfly hallway of kindness with a focus on color mixing.
I can create a symmetrical butterfly.
Vocabulary
symmetry- what happens on one side, is the same as the other
primary colors- red, yellow, and blue
secondary colors- orange, purple, and green
1st grade artists are creating a self portrait!
We will look at different examples of self portraits by a variety of artists. Our collaged self portrait will be a "royal" self portrait. We will choose what kingdom we want to rule over and create a special crown to wear.
