First Grade

Henri Rousseau

Jungle Animals

Students analyzed and responded to the work of Rousseau and learned about his life before choosing a jungle animal for their next project. Once drawn, kids sat with students who chose the same animal, to take a closer look at the textures of their animals. Students worked together, exploring oil pastel techniques and creating new ones of their own, to achieve successful textures together.

CUTTING PAINTING COLLAGE GLUING SHAPE LINEFirst grade students drew pumpkins without stencils! They combined knowledge of oval and heart to draw large, pumpkin shapes on their paper and cut them out. They saved both their pumpkin and scrap paper to color mix and paint using tempera paint. Kindergarten learned about the Primary Colors. They used Red and Yellow to mix and paint their pumpkins orange, and blue and yellow to paint their scrap paper green!
