My name is Joslyn Austin and I am the Visual Arts teacher at Wolcott Elementary School. This is my 4th year as an art educator and my 4th year teaching Art Quest!
I grew up in Rangeley, Maine and attended Plymouth State University in New Hampshire, where I graduated with a degree in Fine Arts in 2000. I was a stay at home Mom to three amazing kids until I decided to go back to grad school to get certified to teach. In 2020, I graduated from CCSU and was fortunate to have been hired in this wonderful district with an amazing visual arts program. I spent my first two years at Norfeldt Elementary school before transferring to Wolcott where my own kids went and where I consider "home."
One of my biggest influences growing up was my Art teacher. I hope to one day be the same for some of my students!
My specialties in Art are drawing and painting. My favorite subject matter is people! I am fascinated by human emotion and expressions and love to capture this in my artwork.
My family and I reside here in West Hartford and are an active part of this community. During the spring and summer months you can find me at Sterling field running West Hartford Girls Softball League.
My oldest daughter Caroline graduated from Conard High School in 2022 and is now continuing both her soccer and softball career playing for the Bay Path University Wildcats. She was named to the 2023 USCAA All-American softball team.
My middle daughter Lucy is a sophomore at Conard. She enjoys reading, writing, and art. Lucy also plays softball for Conard and during the summer months, plays for West Hartford Fury.
My son Aaron is a 6th grader at Sedgwick Middle School. He loves math, all sports, (especially hockey) and plays for the Central Capitals.
Below are some of my personal works of art!
