Gratitude: Wildcat Of The Month
It's that time of month again! The new focus for this month is gratitude. It is important to show
gratitude always, off campus or on campus. It means to show that you are grateful or
appreciative when someone says or does something kind. Or just saying thank you. Showing
gratitude is a way of showing respect for others. It means different things to different people.
“Gratitude is like when you're thankful for something and you can show it by gifting
somebody.” Said Lainey from room 101. Several students have given answers on what gratitude
means to them. “Gratitude is being thankful for what you have and not being jealous of other
people.” Said vanessa. There are many ways to show gratitude so don't forget to show it this
month so you can be chosen for wildcat of the month.

Harvest Festival
by Mateo 7th grader
In the beginning of the harvest festival at 10 every one started to set up then at 10 30 all the stands were ready for buyers at 11:00 the guitar performers and chorus left Mr. Culton classroom and went to the community park and at 11:15 they started playing they played The songs My girl, Three string rock, Aura Lee, When the saints go marching, Dvorák, Ode to joy and jingle bells. It ended around 11 45 but course students and electric guitar players still had to perform until around 12:30 after that, everyone helped two put away their guitars and clean up.Thats the guitar part of the harvest festival. They finished around 11:45 And the harvest festival had stuff like food stands, drink stands, clothes stands and costumes stands.
They had wanted posters for teachers and they gave someone handcuffs to arrest someone for 2 dollars and they had to stay in there for 5 minutes and it was 1 dollar to bail out of the jail cell. They had this giant bouncer that was part of a wrist band and with the wrist band you got to do games for free and they cost 20 bucks. There was a raffle that cost 2 bucks for a basket that can be worth 250 dollars at most. That's all that happened at Andrews elementary school harvest festival.
Video - School Water Investigation
School water problems and issues
Written by Kwan
Recently, a water fountain in Andrews school has broken down. Some students even have reported white water from when refilling their bottles. It is unsure how the water turned out to be like this.
The water fountain in the park has broken down and it is unavailable, this could be because animals that live underground may have accidentally dug into the water fountain and broke it. The white water could be because of dirty and unclean pipes in the sewers. One student reported “I was refilling my water bottle with the water fountain, and when I looked inside it was white!”
However, this will be carefully inspected later on and hopefully in the future, this issue will be inspected and fixed.

November is national diabetes month! So here’s some information about diabetes to make you more aware.
There are two types of diabetes, Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 is much less common than Type 2, only affecting 5-10% of people with diabetes.
What causes Type 1 diabetes?
It is thought to be caused when the body mistakenly attacks itself. This destroys cells that produce insulin, called beta cells. The process of them being destroyed can go on for months or years without notice. You need these to keep your blood sugar at a good rate. So with these cells destroyed, you need to take insulin shots every day. You cannot take an insulin pill because the acid in your stomach would dissolve it immediately, and that would make it so that it couldn’t get into your bloodstream.
Type 1 diabetes is genetic, and it can be more risky getting a virus, because that could trigger it to start. But Type 1 diabetes is not caused by diet or lifestyle.
Type 2 Diabetes
About 1 in 10 people have diabetes (37 million people), and most of them (90-95%) have Type 2. Type 2 diabetes usually develops in people 45 years of age or older, but the cases in children, teens, and young adults are rising in numbers.
You may be able to manage Type 2 diabetes with healthy eating and being active, but your doctor may prescribe insulin shots, other injectable medicines, or oral pills to manage your blood sugar levels.
How common is it for children and teens to get Type 2 diabetes?
Childhood obesity rates are rising, as are the childhood Type 2 diabetes rates. More than 75% of children who have Type 2 diabetes have a close relative who has it, but it’s not always because of their relation. It could be because they share similar habits.
Statistics
37.3 million people have diabetes
28.7 million people are diagnosed
8.5 million people are undiagnosed
96 million people over the age of 18 have prediabetes
26.4 million people over the age of 65 have prediabetes
Symptoms
With adults, the symptoms are increased thirst and increased urination. With Type 1 diabetes, there may be weight loss, even with adequate food intake. Unfortunately, both parents and pediatricians can overlook these symptoms in babies and children. Without proper treatment, a dangerous dehydrated state called diabetic ketoacidosis can occur.

Dia De Los Muertos
(Day of the Dead)
The Day of the Dead is a Holiday that celebrates our ancestors and loved ones who have passed away. It is traditionally celebrated on the first two days of November, each day and time for the different ages and then one final celebration altogether. And guess what, you’re gonna be learning about this because I need a good grade or else Mrs. Mother Dearest and Papa are gonna get mad if I screw this up, sO LET’S GO.
As previously stated, the Day of the Dead is celebrated on two days, November 1st and 2nd. Now the first day is meant for the deceased children. The kids who passed away too early. This day is called Día De Los Angelitos or Day of the Little Angels. It is believed that this is a day where the children can reunite with their families for a short amount of time. The families themselves make ofrendas (more on that later) to encourage the children to come. They decorate the ofrendas with toys, foods, and different things that the children liked when they were alive. Often, the names of the children are written on the back of sugar skulls.
The Second Day of the Dead is called Día De Los Difuntos. This is a day where we celebrate the adults and grown ups who have passed on. This day is very similar to the previous one, just more adult-ish. Instead of toys on the ofrenda, they put tequila, pan de muerto and jars of Atole. Families will often relish in memories of the deceased and dance to the music playing. Though, this only lasts for a short time, for it begins at 12:00 am and ends in the middle of the day.
The finale of the Day of Dead happens when Día De Los Difuntos has passed. This can be seen as a sorta “grand finale.” This day is to celebrate everyone who has passed away, including young and old. In recent times, people would have face paints of calaveras (skulls) and dance and parade on the streets. It’s also customary to go to the deceased's grave and decorate it with things they loved, marigolds, and sugar skulls. They would also clean their grave and restore its color.
What are Ofrendas exactly? I’ve talked about it a couple of times. Aight, so basically, ofrendas are altars covered with pictures of the deceased person as well as their favorite foods, music, and others. They’re usually also covered in marigolds, a type of flower known for being involved with Día De Los Muertos. They are sometimes called Flor de Muerto, which means flower of the dead. Ofrendas and marigolds are believed to help guide the spirits to the living family, as well as help them return home.
Another big part of Dia De Los Muertos is the calaveras (skulls). They can be seen all over on Dia De Los Muertos. There’s sugar skulls, clay decorations, and the most known, face painting. Lots of people, including young and old, paint their faces to look like calaveras. Calaveras are typically used as a way to mock death. To the people celebrating, death is not a somber thing, it’s a natural and welcomed part of life, so people do these celebrations to pay honor to their loved ones.
Well, that’s all I have for today about Dia De Los Muertos. I’m just honestly really tired and have a headache right now so as soon as I go home I’m gonna either fight god or become him. Bye for now. You’ll see me in your nightmares.

Make a difference
November is national youth homeless awareness month. It’s a time to bring awareness to people, but it shouldn't just be in November that we pay attention to this situation people are in, it should be always when we pay attention to this issue. National Youth Homeless Awareness Month was first declared in 2007 and since then November is a time to recognize the youth and families who are homeless. Most of the youth in America are under 18 or between the ages of 16-22 so we can help those ages the most.
When Sabrina Rodriguez was asked how she felt for the youth in need she said: “I feel empathy for the youth in need because everyone deserves the best life they can get.” She was also asked what are some ways you think people can help and she responded: “Ways people can help are by donating to local organizations that help the homeless.” There are many organizations that help homeless people and you can look into them to help others. She was asked why she thinks bringing awareness to people is important and she said: “So they can help people in need.” And she was also asked how she thinks we can bring more awareness to people and she answered “By promoting it on social media because it's a big platform and reaches a lot of people.” That's true and if you look into it you can probably find people helping online and on social media.
There are many things you can do to help and bring awareness to the world and hopefully you choose to.

NBA Season Kicks Off!
By Braylen and Logan
The 77th NBA regular season has started! 82 games have begun! The season started October 18. Last year's champions were the Golden State Warriors. This season has started weird. With a bunch of drama and rumors. The drama has distracted basketball and has ruined a bit of the league's image.
Chris Mullin, a hall of fame former player said, “ I think right now the best thing that can happen is the season start on the court,”
Teams To watch Out For
Some teams have improved amazingly while others haven’t improved at all. The Lakers are off to a really rough start and they have lost 4 consecutive games and barely got their first win on October 30th. The Lakers never started 0-4 during Jerry Buss’s 34-year ownership tenure. A team that is looking good this year is the Bucks. They are 6-0 as of November 4th. They are one of the teams that are expected to win the championship this year. They have a solid team with great shooters and have a good offensive end and defensive end.
Our NBA Predictions
With the new season starting up it is always a tradition to make your NBA predictions. Like what team is going to take it all this year or who is going to win MVP this year. Predictions are always fun to make so here are our predictions!
This Years NBA Champions: Cleveland Cavaliers
MVP: Luka Doncic
ROTY: Paolo Banchero
The 2022-2023 NBA season is going to have a lot of action this year! There are going to be lots of close and nail biting games and high level plays this year. Which is why the Larry O’Brien trophy is going to be hard to win.

The tradition is that every thanksgiving at least one game takes place. But that's not it there is also another tradition which is that the winning team of the game gets to eat a turkey that is brought out onto the field by staff. This thanksgiving game tradition is not played by most teams there are many teams that aren't known for the thanksgiving games but there are two that are known which is the Cowboys who are going to play in the Thanksgiving game for the 55th time but there is also the Lions who are going to play their 83rd which is the most played Thanksgiving games out of every team. Unfortunately though the Lions have struggled and haven't won a thanksgiving game 5 years in a row and hope to win their first thanksgiving game since 2016 against the Buffalo Bills meanwhile the Cowboys hope to win for a better place in the division. Christian McCaffrey Before the 49ers
Christian McCaffrey or for short his nickname is CMC stands for christian McCaffrey he is one of the best running backs in the league. The 49ers saw his stats and they said we might need to add a weapon to the offense like him. That would be good for are team they said and it was against their rivalry the LA Rams. The 49ers needed a big win into their game-day ensemble following Christian McCaffrey’s unreal showing against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. Before the 49ers christian mccaffrey was on the Carolina Panthers. A few years ago they were a good team and they went to the super bowl against the Denver Broncos. They lost but what really made CMC shine was the quarterback for the panthers his name is cam newton but when he left they started being a bad team and had know one so CMC really had to take over. And he did that's how he made his name better. Everyone wanted to go see him play. CMC hated losing so that's why he left and the 49ers are happy because they are winning and CMC is too because he is getting paid a lot of money and he is winning games. The 49ers are a super bowl team, and in my opinion the 49ers coach very well and CMC is a very skilled player.
