Teen Court
OVERVIEW
Teen Court holds simulated court sessions to give juvenile first-time offenders (generally ages 10-15) the chance to turn their lives around, avoid a future criminal record, and introduce teens to the world of legal advocacy. Wake Forest Law Students serve as mentors and co-counsel for teen attorneys as they defend and prosecute juvenile first-time offenders. In each case, guilt has been admitted by the defendant who agrees to abide by the sentence of the jury like community service hours, skills and education seminars, tutoring, jury duty sessions at other teen court proceedings, a letter of apology to injured parties, and personal apologies. Teen Court is held every other week at the Forsyth County Courthouse and is directly coordinated with the Forsyth County Court system.
