Although Wake Law students have been engaged in pro bono work for many years, a formal Pro Bono Project was started during the 2009–2010 academic year. In the 2010–2011 academic year, the law school provided greater administrative support by hiring a Director of Outreach.

Now in its fourteenth year, the Pro Bono Project has filled hundreds of placements with attorneys in non-profit organizations, private practice, and North Carolina’s legal services organizations. The Pro Bono Project is administered by a student executive board and project coordinators with the support and assistance of law school administration, namely through the Faculty Director, and in partnership with local attorneys and legal service organizations.

At Wake Law, the Pro Bono Project is the central point for all pro bono activities and maintains a database to keep track of student pro bono work.  We look forward to continuing this tradition of helping our community with on-going participation in existing pro bono projects and undertaking new opportunities and events for pro bono service.
