Councillor Ray Nowak who has seen and supports the plan told me, “I fully support getting this into the public debate and I believe this potential new community involvement should be encouraged, in particular the concepts of sustainable and local at the core of thinking". Ray and I both think that the peninsula is the key to the revitalisation of Weymouth for the next century. We feel Weymouth has more condensed potential in that one piece of land than probably any town or city in the UK.
Ray was formerly the Leader of St Edmunsbury Borough Council , it was his vision to change the car park in the centre of the historic Bury St Edmunds, in to a new centre for shopping , entertainment and housing. The 'Arc' is now a busy and bustling shopping area , with apartments above some of the shops , the design winning central store is opposite the 'Apex' a live performance and exhibition building for the arts. Ray says,
"That all sounds a bit familiar , car park , sensitive site , need for live arts centre ..... if it can happen in a small rural market town of 40 thousand people , imagine what could be achieved in a bigger town like Weymouth with the Jewel of the Peninsular as its focus."
