At the heart of Induction is the Individual Learning Plan (ILP) supported within a robust mentoring system of supports. The ILP is personally designed to meet the individual needs of each beginning teacher and is initiated within the first 60 days of program enrollment. The ILP is built through a series of California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP) centered, skill-building supports, designed to provide you with the tools and resources for working toward your ILP goal. Our Support Providers provide assistance in meeting the "just in time" needs you encounter in your early years of teaching. ILP reflections and growth are shared at the end of the year at the Colloquium Presentations event in May.
Individual Learning Plan Components
CSTP-Centered Goals: Self-reflective teachers work toward growth and competency in the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTPs) throughout their careers. ILP goals should correlate to one of the six CSTPs. CSTP goals should be based on a variety of sources: transition documents, support provider observations, self-assessments, and site administrator input. Goals should be modified and updated according to the growth and needs of each individual teacher and the context of the teacher’s current assignment.
Professional Learning: The ILP will include a professional development plan relevant to the teacher’s ILP goals. These may include trainings offered both inside and outside of district. Teachers will create an initial training plan for the year and update the plan as needed. Any time the training plan is modified, approval signatures are required to assist the teacher in maintaining a relevant plan that considers the teacher’s work load and related educational endeavors.
Defined/Measurable Outcomes for the Participating Teacher and Students: The ILP serves to guide teachers as they learn to measure their own success as instructors and to develop systems of evidence to validate teaching practices. Teachers also learn to gather, assess, and measure student achievement data, reflect upon instructional habits as they correlate to student achievement, and design meaningful learning experiences through effective lesson planning.
