Under Senate Bill 57 and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing Induction Preconditions, WUSD makes an Early Completion Option avalible. This program is designed for those with previous teacher experience and considered "experienced and exceptional". Candidates must meet the following criteria:
Participating teacher must:
Hold a California Preliminary Single Subject, Multiple Subject, and/or Education Specialist credential that does not have assessment renewal requirements (i.e. TPA, RICA, English Authorization, etc.). Candidate may not be a hybrid induction candidate with outstanding testing requirements.
Be able to document a minimum of three years prior teaching experience as the full-time teacher of record in their earned credential area. Experience may include, but is not limited to, completion of an intern program, teaching out-of-state, or other recent teaching experience (private or charter school experience).
Provide the most recent teacher performance evaluation that is based on the CSTPs from an employer (previous or current) directly responsible for the evaluation of the named teacher. Candidates receiving marks of needs improvement will not be considered for ECO.
A recommendation by his/her current school administrator (who has first-hand knowledge of the teacher’s teaching skills) acknowledging that the teacher warrants a recommendation to be granted an accelerated induction option because they are experienced and exceptional.
Please review the requirements here and feel free to contact the Induction Program Coordinator for more information
Supporting Documents for Part One of the ECO application:
Verification of teaching experience (formal evaluations or observations)
The most recent formal evaluation from a supervisor directly responsible for the evaluation of the named teacher.
A letter of recommendation from the current evaluator
What is the completion process for the ECO?
Candidates requesting the ECO must follow the same meeting/paperwork requirements as those in the regular induction track until their ECO status is approved and documented with a letter from the department. All work and application materials will be evaluated against the six standards of the California Standards for the Teaching Profession and the Induction Standards. This assessment will be conducted by the induction director and new teacher support staff.
If the ECO is approved, candidates will receive a formal letter of approval and will complete a ECO contract detailing the responsibilities and timeline of the program. It is expected that the ECO teacher will complete two inquiries, a culminating project, and an exit interview by the end of the first year of the program.
If the ECO participating teacher is not successfully progressing or fails to demonstrate an appropriate level of skill in the program or classroom, adjustments will be made by the Program Director. ECO status is provisional and the program reserves the right to revoke this status at any time, in which case the candidate would be returned to the traditional induction track.
